Meet Xena!

Thanks to a generous grant from Maddie's Fund, Xena’s adoption fee is WAIVED!

Hi! My name is Xena! I am a fun-loving, rambunctious pup who is packed full of energy! Want to see how fast I can run?! Throw my favorite toy (though I can't promise I'll bring it back... you said you needed exercise too, right??). I get along with humans big and small. Meeting a new pup is the highlight of my day, and I'm learning more and more each day that cats aren't all that scary!

I live for snuggling (preferably on top of you) and I like to stay really close. My furry foster sister knows that all too well -- sleeping on top of her is one of my favorite things to do.

In my free time I love to play outside, eat peanut butter, and go for walks!

My foster mom says I'm a really good girl, but I still have a couple things to work on. Sometimes I steal treats and food from my foster sister when she's not looking, I can get a little jumpy when I'm excited (but my puppy card has NOT YET expired... whew!) and I'm working really hard on potty training -- I'm finally starting to get the hang of it. Foster mom also has to keep reminding me that my crate is my safe place and that I shouldn't be so scared. I tell her all the time that I'm working on it! And if she wants to slip me a few more frozen Kongs while I'm in there, I wouldn't be mad :)

I prefer to not be left alone. It makes me a little bit anxious not knowing where you are. I'm supposed to be your best friend, right? So... why wouldn't I follow you everywhere you go?! And just when you thought the shower was safe....

Because I'm a bit anxious, my foster mama gives me a small dose of Prozac to help calm me down. It's not expensive, and it's helped me a lot! So my forever family will have to promise Canine Cupids that they will continue to give me my medication.

Anyways, if you think you're ready for a super fun gal like me, let me know. I promise not to disappoint!

She is being fostered in southeastern Wisconsin. Because all our Cupids are fostered in private homes, an approved application MUST be on file before proceeding with a meet-and-greet. The online application can be found at http://www.caninecupids.org/adopt-.html.

Our Thoughts on Visual Breed Identification
Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable. For most of our adoptable Cupids we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We think it’s most important is to get to know each dog as an individual! We then do our best to describe each of our adoptable Cupids based on their personalities in order to determine whether they’ll make good companions based on prospective adopters’ lifestyles. Dog behavior is not exclusive to breed — it’s a complex mix of nature and nurture.

About Canine Cupids

About Our Rescue Group...

Canine Cupids' mission is to protect and improve the lives of Milwaukee's homeless, neglected, and exceptional needs dogs and to place them in permanent, loving homes.

Canine Cupids is a Certified 501c3 Organization
DATCPLicense: 288601-DS

Canine Cupids work with animals, within our community and throughout our organization is guided by three core values: compassion, integrity and dedication.

Because every animal deserves to be loved, we feel it is our moral responsibility to protect and improve the lives of abused, abandoned, and homeless dogs, and to place them in loving permanent homes.

We strive to work withMADACC as well as other rescues and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless pets within Milwaukee.

At Canine Cupids our founding principle is that "ALL dogs are individuals and deserve to be regarded as such". This mindset is core to the belief system at The Animal Farm Foundation. It assists in securing equal treatment and opportunity for "pit bull" dogs - as well as all dogs, regardless of size, color, etc.

"We owe it to all dogs to see them for who they really are, free of prejudice, stereotypes, and assumptions that are based on a known pedigree, a breed label guess, physical appearance, or their past history."*

"Breed related traits are not guaranteed. If a dog does conform to breed traits that does not mean a dog isn't an individual! Breed characteristics may contribute to a dog?s individuality, but they are not the whole story." *

Don't judge a book by its cover and don't judge a pooch by its stereotype!
