My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When we are asked about a special rescue pup that is snuggly, sweet and very fun-loving, we can't help but think of Louis. His smile is shining...and maybe just a bit mischievous. His foster knows it's morning when Louis's little head comes under the blanket...getting closer and closer..and then a kiss of love. This curious and really, really smart 18 - 24 month old, 14 lb Havanese/Poodle mix is a truly great companion. There aren't many visible signs that Louis was in a very scary high-kill shelter. He's sometimes shy and can be a bit afraid in certain situations..but a warm hug and reassuring words..and Louis bounces back and cuddles just a bit closer.

We picture Louis as the best friend to retirees. He'd be so loyal.. and overjoyed to share his love and good will. There's also no question that Louis would be the most popular guy on the block. Once comfortable, he loves to engage and just be his entertaining, adorable self. Even though Louis is usually up for pretty much any activity, he's never pushy or yappy. Exercise..perhaps long, leisurely walks to socialize with neighbors..and mental stimulation that comes from his time with his humans is important to this guy to keep him happy and well-behaved. it's not that he requires extensive amounts, just enough to keep him healthy and stimulated.

Louis's Texas foster mom had the following to say about this very sweet guy:

Louis is such a wonderful dog! He could be the sweetest and easiest dog I've ever fostered. Louis is house broken and crate trained...this is quite unusual in a dog that's been homeless and in a shelter - he's just that smart! Louis has self crated himself a few times already. He's such an intuitive guy that he's capable of problem-solving - he knows that if he's stressed, he can go into his very comfy crate and feel much better. Louis also eats in his crate at this point...he just likes it that much and we're fine with feeding him where he's most comfortable. Now I'm trying to teach Louis how to use the doggie door - again..he's so brilliant that he came in from outside on his own today.
I love this little guy so much already that I allowed him to sleep with me last night. Louis was quiet, cuddly and perfect throughout the night. He's so sweet and kind that seeing his adorable little face in the morning is the greatest way to start the day.
Louis is doing very well with my standard poodle. They can share space together in a very positive way (and my Poodle almost never likes my fosters) and Louis never, ever tries to guard me or protect me from my own dog. This just means he's much more secure then your typical rescue dog. Louis is doing surprisingly well with my cats and kittens...he is very respectful while mostly ignoring them. He would do just fine in a home with friendly cats.
Louis will love the outdoorsy life of Colorado! He is happily going out onto the grass in the backyard and exploring the yard. I have about an 1/8 of an acre and some of the fosters have been afraid/uncomfortable with going off the cement patio just outside the back door...but not Louis! He's brave, smart and adventurous!
Someone must have cared about Louis at some point in his short life...they taught him how to walk really well on a leash and gave him the confidence to join his person with absolute trust and joy on long walks and hikes. Louis approaches the walkers and hikers that we meet in an initially shy way but warms up so quickly that before you know it he's sharing a huge tail wag and a kiss.
Louis is kind and loves petting and attention. He really enjoys being near me but doesn't have that insecure need to touch me constantly. Louis is just an extremely well-adjusted dog who is great with both men and women. I don't have any young children but it's impossible for me imagine that Louis wouldn't be great with everyone!
I've been socializing Louis (Home Depot and small shops in outdoor malls) and he's been so amazing. I've never met anyone who doesn't love Louis and respond positively to his calm and positive demeanor.
I'd like to end this by saying that I just got home from running errands for several hours and didn't crate Louis...he was absolutely perfect. Now, as I sit and write this..Louis is sleeping on my feet. He has far more interest in me than in toys but we'll work on that next. I just love this dog that has the softest fur I've ever felt!

Louis will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 6/26/15. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.
