My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

At 11 years young, Grandpa Lucky is one of the most energetic seniors his foster family has ever had the pleasure of housing! He is a small-breed Chihuahua, weighing in at 7.4lbs, but his large personality makes up for his little stature. Though a senior, Grandpa Lucky loves nothing more than to play, be it with his people or his foster brothers and sisters, he adores going on mile-long walks, and he likes meeting new people. He is great with women, men, and other dogs; but he hasn't been around kids or cats - so we're not sure what he thinks of them. When not out and about, he enjoys sitting next to his people and relaxing on a comfortable pillow or pile of blankets. If he can’t get you to sit next to him, he may just abandon his roost and follow you around the house until you do! Despite all this, he would like you to know that he is not a traditional lap dog. He wants to sit next to you and shadow you around the house, but he doesn’t enjoy being carried around or held. But don’t take it as a sign he doesn’t love you, like most old men he just likes a little personal space!

Grandpa Lucky is looking for a special adopter who will open their homes, not just to a senior, but to a dog with congestive heart failure (CHF). The vet says that CHF could mean Grandpa Lucky has anywhere from 1 – 3 years left with the right medication. As of right now he's on a liquid coughing medication that needs to be administered twice a day with his food. This medication is affordable at $17 per month, and as long as it’s in liquid form he’s happy to take it. Due to his CHF, Lucky is still an intact male. He is unable to be neutered due to the risk surgery would impose on him. This hasn’t affected his relationships with other dogs, nor is he aggressive with people.

If you think you are the forever home Grandpa Lucky can live out his golden years with the love of a good family, please fill out an application! He’s ready to meet his forever home and forever family, and enjoy his golden years surrounded by the love he deserves.

If you are interested in finding out more about Lucky, please fill out an application. Lucky is being fostered in Grafton, Ma.

Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
