My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Brigitte is an elegant, demure lady, who has demonstrated grace under extreme pressure. She has every right to be on edge, considering the stressful events that she recently endured. Brigitte and her housemate, Blizzard, were found by Good Samaritans, locked in a car during a recent heat wave. The vehicle was quickly becoming an oven in the 82 degree heat, as passersby desperately called 911 to have the dogs released before their grizzly fate was sealed.

Police were able to break into the car, and release the dogs, who then were transported to a local shelter for some much needed hydration. Oddly, shelter personnel were not able to contact their owners, so they were released to us for a chance at a better life.

Brigitte is an estimated three year old Golden Retriever/Yellow Lab mix, with petite, doe-like features. She is a tall, lean dog, weighing 46 pounds, with the swiftness and power of an athelete that makes us wonder if there isn't a smidge of Sight Hound in her DNA. Her lovely golden coat is short, and low maintenance, and she sports a splash of white on her chest and demure white "socks" on delicate feet.

Brigitte presents with a somewhat timid nature. She is accustomed to deferring to Blizzard in the family pack dynamic, and remains tenative when Blizzard is out of the picture. She is slowly building confidence, as her positive interactions continue with people and other dogs. She warms quickly to human touch and is respectful of her place in the pack. Brigitte will enjoy coming into her own in a new family.

Brigitte would be a fantastic companion to an active single or couple, who can provide a fair amount of exercise and leadership. She is friendly to all, easy to handle and tolerant of other dogs. She could easily join a multi-dog home, and she has a nice, mellow energy that will appeal to most well mannered dogs. Brigitte could most likely join a feline home with proper introduction and supervision. We would like to steer clear of toddlers, but we feel that Brigitte would enjoy the gentle attention of older kids.

Brigitte has not had much obedience training, but she is responding nicely to basic commands. She seems to enjoy the training, as well as the training treats! Brigitte is a quick student, eager to please, and responds to both positive reinforcement and leadership techniques. Adopters should continue her obedience work, not only to foster good behavior, but to give Brigitte the mental challenge that she needs each day.

Brigitte is in excellent health, and at an ideal weight. She has been spayed, and is up to date on routine shots and has tested negative for heartworm and tick borne disease.
