My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pumba is an 8yr old Shepard-Poodle mix. His name was given to him because of his similar appearance to Pumba from The Lion King; he has an incredible underbite and had long hair on his back with short hair on the sides! Also, like puma from the Lion King, our Pumba has a ton of energy to offer. He loves to play and go for walks and occasional jogs. A difference with our Pumba is that he is a perfect 25lbs and rarely ever talks/ bark.

Although Pumba has made wonderful strides in his training program, he is still working on overcoming some trust issues, but he has been doing great. Pumba's adopter will need to continue to work with him post adoption. But a training plan is in place and his trainer will be made available to help out whenever.

If he could talk we're pretty sure this is how he'd describe himself:

"Hi! I'm Pumba and have a lot of love to give a new family. I love to cuddle, play outside and will follow you around everywhere. I love to go on walks and occasional jogs, it doesn't matter what time of day it is (Although, my foster dad says I have to work on my leash manners — I just can't wait to go go go!). I know how to “sit” and “stay”, to “get down”, to “wait”, to “leave it”, and to “drop it”. I am also potty trained and will only do my business outside, a well a crate trained. The greatest issue that I am working to overcome is meeting new people. I LOVE my family and friends who I am comfortable with, but I am having a hard time with new people. I really do not like strangers touching me, although I will gently take a treat from the person. And the same goes for dogs, I do not like my space invaded by a dog that I do not know, but with time and adequate training I can learn to get along. My past as a stray and then from shelter to foster homes has made me a bit more anxious and frightened with strangers, but I promise I can be an amazing companion and forever loyal –in time. To those who have fostered me, they can speak of the bundle of joy and love I become once I get comfortable around them. I will never cease to wag my tail when you call my name, when I see you in the morning or back from work, or when you play with me. I do not need much, just someone who can be consistent and loving.

Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
