My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have a standard grey female chinchilla that is looking for her new home. Her name is Paco (and yes, we’re sure she’s a female). She came to the rescue a few years ago, with another chinchilla, and was adopted. Well, her new family has since gotten a dog, and Paco has fallen to the wayside. So, she’s here at the rescue again, and again looking for that perfect home. Paco is now approx. 10 years old.

Paco is a curious girl. She’s always hopping around her cage, checking things out. She loves her food and chew sticks, and loves attention. She is very calm when you get her out of the cage and does great with being held and petted. In her cage, she loves running on her flying saucer. She doesn’t bite.

Paco is considered a special needs chinchillas. Paco needs to be wiped down at least once a day with babywipes or a wet cloth on her underside. We’re not sure if it is due to an injury, or if she just sits in her pee once she goes, but she manages to keep herself wet with urine on her underside all the time. She has never peed while we are holding her, so it is possible she just likes to pee and sit in that spot, and soak it into her fur, but whatever the cause, we do not want her to develop urine burns, so she needs to be wiped daily. She does NOT have a strong smell, despite this.

Paco has lived with other chinchillas in the past, and has done great with them. It is possible that she might get along with other chinchillas again, and if you are curious about this, please let us know.

This chinchilla will come with some food to start you out (2 pounds of Tradition pellets), a goodie bags of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. They will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet, fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire, and provide proof of cage. If you are unwilling to do these things, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

This chinchilla is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). Sorry, but we do not ship.

Paco has an adoption fee of $50
