My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Standard grey female chinchilla -- "Gizzy the Good Gremlin"
--furchewer--
Born 2011-2013-- 11-13 years old

PLEASE READ -- Remember how the good gremlin still caused trouble? Yeeeah...that's Gizzy! Gizzy is a nervous chinchilla that is not a fan of being out of her cage. She's not a fan of being caught / picked up. Holy cow can she jump, and she can get out of any playpen / containment you try to put her. Even her cage... leave the door open and turn your back for a moment too long... and she is GONE. Gizzy is easily stressed out, and when she gets out, she is HARD to catch. Gizzy is more of a look-but-don't-touch type chinchilla, who would not appreciate snuggles. We have not had a lot of handling time with her, as that's just not her thing, and anyone looking to adopt a chinchilla that they really want to interact with should really look some of the other furballs we have available, as Gizzy isn't it. We were told that Gizzy likes belly scratches, but we have not been able to really verify this. She has proven to be very flighty and would do best in a low-stress environment, preferably an adult-only-home. Due to her nervous behaviors, we don't think playtime would be "fun" for her.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process requires all of our potential homes to read our care packet and fill out an adoption form. The care packet talks about the care and needs of the specific animal the home is looking to adopt. The adoption form asks questions about the type of home the animal will be going into, what type of cage will be used, what type of food the animal will be fed, and so on - questions to verify that the pet will be cared for well in its new home. There is no application fee with our rescue, the only fees are the adoption fees for the pets.

Go meet their pets

Visiting our adoptable animals requires an appointment. To make an appointment with us, give us a call 219-789-0026. The rescue is run out of our house, so we are not always home for someone to view the animals. We are home most afternoons/evenings, and people are welcome to come visit then (after having called and set up an appointment).

More about this rescue

I am Ashley Gajda and I am the "owner" (if it could even be called that) of the rescue. I opened this rescue because I hated to see small pets without homes, and wanted to help. We opened the rescue in 2003 with very few cages, but have since expanded and now take in a variety of small animals and have plenty of spare cages. It is just me running the rescue, so I'm always looking for volunteers to help with whatever needs it at the time.
