Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Salsa is a sweet, cuddly and gentle 18-month-old, 60-pound, female brindle and white Boxer/American Bulldog/Pit Bull/Great Dane-mix looking for a loving guardian.
She can be a little shy at first, but warms up quickly and is an incredibly loving and playful companion. She is full of kisses and tail wags. Salsa absolutely loves all other dogs and will be happiest in a home with another canine. She is perfectly housebroken, crate-trained and non-destructive in the home. Her foster mom doesn’t even crate her at all.
Salsa is a good and athletic running partner but she can be strong and stubborn on leash – especially when she sees other dogs she wants to play with. She’ll be phenomenal in training class as she’s very food-motivated and super smart. She already knows the commands sit, stay, down, come, and off. She loves to play fetch but equally loves a snuggle session on the couch.
She is quiet in the home so she can easily live in a condo, apartment, townhouse or a house with a yard. However, she will loyally bark when she wants to alert you.
Her only faults if she has to have some, is that she gets car-sick and she snores.
Sadly, Salsa was rescued from a 75-year-old woman who was beating her with a stick with nails in it. She was horribly bloody and beat up when she arrived at Chicago Animal Care and Control. She was full of staples and stitches and caught kennel cough followed by pneumonia after entering the city shelter. When she was finally and luckily transferred to a foster home, she weighed only 40 pounds and didn’t trust people. Now, thanks to a loving foster mom she’s done a 180 and has learned how kind and fun humans can be.
Salsa is now extremely healthy, spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm and fecal-tested and micro-chipped. Her adoption fee of $200 benefits the Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control. To meet and possibly adopt Salsa, please contact Kat at kat@fcacc.org for an adoption application, or if you have further questions about Salsa, please contact her foster mom Jennifer at 219-794-4045.
