My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You know that we all have our favorites...maybe it's the pup that snuggles a bit closer or wags her entire body when she sees you simply because she can't contain how much she loves you. These descriptions could be Lena. Her Texas rescuers were set on saving this sweet girl's life when Lena got caught in an extremely overcrowded shelter system that doesn't have the time or personnel to deal with the little dog in the dark cage... wagging her tail so hopefully. But luck wasn't with Lena as she got transferred to the section of the shelter reserved for dogs with just 24 hours left. Lena has allergies to fleas and Houston shelters don't treat this very curable dermatitis. It's just another way to trim down the shelter population.

Thank goodness for Lena's great temperament and her sweet and expressive eyes that were so pleading...these were her tickets to transport and a new life in Colorado. Lena was vetted, temperament tested and brought to a Texas foster home to get the attention she always deserved and to work on her house skills. Before long, Lena was ready for her trip to Colorado - a bit wiser and so excited about her new possibilities.

We feel like Lena might have been treated unkindly during her short life. She's a bit timid in new situations...but give her a minute (and a belly rub would be great) and her sweet and kind personality starts to emerge. With a bit of kindness, Lena understands that there is no intention to hurt her..and all is right with the world.

Lena never hesitates to put her best self forward...that is an engaging personality and enthusiasm for her favorite people and canine friends We can't forget that Lena, at only 12 lbs and approximately 12 - 18 months old, is still learning and her behavior will not have the consistent maturity of a dog who's already learned the ropes. Lena's a blank slate waiting to be led. Being close to the puppy stage still, Lena is open to new ideas with new ways of approaching challenges. She just needs a human who is clear with a young dog.

Lena (like all dogs) would benefit from positive reinforcement group training classes so she can be given clear guidelines and fun socialization. It would also cement the relationship with her family so Lena will understand that she is loved and accepted. Lena would be a great take-along pup for retirees or a family with older (and very gentle) kids who desire the loving and cuddly presence of a furry best friend. They would need to provide her with the exercise and mental stimulation that every well-adjusted young pup should have. They couldn't, however, let her incredible cuteness get to them - they would need to provide leadership so this young girl knows what they're asking of her - she will then be an exceptional partner and devoted companion.

Lena appears to be a non-shedding pup and will therefore require great nutrition and periodic grooming to keep her cottony-soft coat healthy and matt-free.

Lena will be arriving on transport in Denver on 8/28/15. If interested in this fun-loving, sweet and very devoted companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
