My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Stetson is a 1 year old absolutely STUNNING GSD who came into the rescue in September 2015 after being surrendered to the shelter by his owner at approximately 8 months old. He was very frightened and clearly lacked social skills and exposure to the world, so he went into foster within a couple of days. His foster home has worked hard with him on getting him out in social situations and building his confidence and obedience. Stetson is now up for adoption with a very specific home in mind. Stetson will not be adopted into a home with children, small dogs, or cats. Since Stetson will need the new owner to devote time to his continued socialization we would prefer he be the only dog. Stetson is a very big dog (90+ pounds), so only a handler who has the physical capabilities of handling a dog that size will be considered and previous GSD handling experience required. Stetson should NOT be considered as a potential service dog, but will be a great companion for the right owner. SPRAZ will require Stetson’s adopter to continue participation in a training program with his trainer(s) as a condition of adoption, which will take place in the North Phoenix area. Multiple introductions may be necessary for Stetson. Stetson has learned in foster his basic obedience skills and attends class 1-2 times per week. The focus has been on working with him to help him understand that people are not something to fear. He is a very handsome boy and when he feels he is safe with his person, he is a marshmallow! Belly rubs are a favorite for him. He walks the shopping malls regularly and works on all the noises and things in the world that he wasn’t exposed to as a young puppy that make him nervous. He is a wonderful dog that has special needs, but he is oh so worth it for that special adopter who can commit to giving him the things he needs to be that confident GSD he was meant to be. If you are looking for an INDOOR companion and you think you have that special home Stetson needs, please fill out our online application to get the approval process started.
