My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi I'm Esmerelda! They tell me I'm a 5 year old Cocker Pug weighing around 37 lbs. I am a super-snuggler (My foster mommy nicknamed me Love Bug even!) and would prefer to be your only pet so that I can get your lap all to myself. It took a few days, but now I love my foster parents, especially when they let me jump up on their couch. I jump right up to flop over for belly rubs. I also love curling up next to my foster mommy in bed (*shhh* daddy doesn't know). My next favorite thing to food would be rubbing my head and face into my foster parent's chins and chests. I am loving getting to wander around new areas, I especially love it when I spy some squirrels, sometimes I try to get up the tree at them, but they're too fast for me! After a medium to long walk, I love running inside for some water, but will typically then just flop over and curl up wherever I find the most comfortable, and take a nap. My foster mommy also wants me to make sure I tell people that I'm completely house trained, and sometimes when you meet me I might get a bit afraid and bark, but usually some food will cheer me right up, and when I start loving you, though it could take a few days, I'll be your little Love Bug too.

I would love to find a quiet adult only home that enjoys taking me out for walking, hiking and of course rubbing ears and bellies. I would love to take some training classes to learn more and to bond with you, but my foster mom's getting me started with Stay and Lie down, I already know what Sit means too! They tell me I'm a smart dog because I catch onto new training and tricks quickly, I even started picking up my kong and putting it on my bed so it wouldn't roll away from me.

Note from Foster Mom: Esmerelda has bonded greatly with us (her foster parents) and the other volunteers that she has spent time with. She is house and crate trained, and will go in her crate on command. She is okay with some dogs, and most people, it's unknown how she'll act around cats. She does take some time to warm up to new people and her new owners should be patient and give her the space that she needs to show off her loving demeanor.

Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
