My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ - Due to the nature of our adoption process, this foster is only able to consider forever families within 15-20 miles of zip code 75074. A vet reference and trial adoption will be done before the adoption is finalized. Thank you for your understanding.

Bear – Bichon Buddy
This handsome boy is Bear. We believe he is a Bichon or possibly a Bichon mix. We aren’t sure how he came to be at the shelter, but this sweet boy knew a better life before he fell on hard times.

Although he is only about 3 years old he was in pretty bad shape when he was rescued from the shelter. He was matted, his toenails curled under, and he tested positive for heartworms. But when I picked him up, he was so grateful to get attention. He just leaned into me and melted into my arms while giving me an adoring look. There was no way I could leave him at the shelter.

Because he had heartworms, poor little Bear had to undergo two painful treatments, followed by a month of inactivity to ensure that the dissolving heartworms didn’t break loose and cause an embolism. In order to keep him inactive, it was necessary to keep him in a crate. Bear was super good in his crate. It quickly became apparent that he has spent a lot of time—probably far too much time—in a crate. Not many dogs would stoically spend day after day in a crate without complaining. After being taken out for his walks, Bear would trot right into his crate when I asked him to. We can't say for sure if he is housetrained but he has not had any accidents in his foster home.

Bear is a no shed dog. He will need to be groomed periodically. After he completed his heartworm treatment, we were able to get his rabies vaccination and take him to the Ooh La La grooming salon in McKinney. The groomer said that at one point in time he must have been groomed regularly because nothing there seemed to surprise him and he did not have a fear of the hair dryer.

Bear loves attention. He will sit next to me on the couch or on my lap. When he wants to be petted he will take his paw and put it on my hand and will try to drag my hand over to pet him; or he will push his head under my hand. He will make someone a wonderful companion.

Anyone interested in our dogs must be over 21. We are only able to adopt to homes within a reasonable driving distance of the dog's foster home and please be prepared for a home visit by one of our volunteers. We do not adopt on first-come-first-served basis, we want to make sure the dog is right for the family and vice versa based on what we know about the dog's personality, habits and behaviors. Our adoption fee for dogs is $175. You can complete an online adoption application on our website http://www.furryfriendsanimalrescue.org- we will get back with you asap.
