My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Make A Difference in your Community - Adopt a Shelter Dog! Would you like to foster a Shelter Survivor? For more information, visit us at www.sheltersurvivors.com.

Thanks to the Soi Dog Foundation (http://www.soidog.org/en/about-soi-dog), our newest foster dog has arrived from Thailand! Malee was a street dog, saved from a terrible fate of being captured, boiled, skinned, and used as meat for human consumption. Shelter Survivors paid for her flight to the US and picked her up at JFK Airport, where she arrived with 9 other lucky dogs going to adopters and rescues. It was an experience we will never forget!

After her extremely long trip, Malee (the Thai name for flower) was tired, frightened, and completely shut down. After a few days in her foster home, Malee's foster mom gained her trust and they have developed a strong bond. It is amazing how far she has come! She is now playful, adores her foster dog "siblings" and has come out of her shell. She is still a little timid when meeting new people, but she is definitely making great strides.

It has been almost a month since Malee's arrival and her foster family loves her! She is affectionate, sweet, smart, and very lovable. She does tend to bond strongly with one person, but she is very welcoming to the other humans in her foster home. She absolutely adores other dogs and although she is not too playful with them, she snuggles with them, licks them, and follows them inside and outside. She has a wonderful, gentle personality and thoroughly enjoys being petted, touched, and hugged.

We would like to place Malee in a home with another dog (or dogs) because she does seem to look to them for guidance, but we would consider a home without any pets. A fenced in yard would be a plus, but not required. Although she has been very friendly with young children she has met, we think a quieter home with older kids or just adults would be best for her.

Despite her situation, Malee is a typical dog. She loves nylabones and chasing tennis balls. She has already learned how to sit and shake. She loves hanging out with her foster family and she has decided she is a lap dog. She does not like crates and cannot be crated, but her foster family leaves her free in the house while they are at work during the day and she is perfectly behaved. She is 3 years old, and weighs about 55 pounds. She is completely housebroken, spayed, up to date on all her shots, heart worm negative, and micro-chipped. She is an absolutely beautiful dog and will be the perfect addition to a very lucky family. If you would like to meet Malee, please fill out our online application or email us at sheltersurvivors@live.com.
