My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BIG BOY
3-6 year old, Male, Red and White Maine Coon

COURTESY POST: Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue is helping facilitate the adoption of this cat. We take no responsibility for the health and medical records of this cat. It is the responsibility of the owner and adopter to discuss this.

Meow! Please let me out. Why must I be stuck in this cage? What did I do to deserve this? I am sure those are the thoughts going through this precious boy’s head.

Well, unfortunately that’s the life of a shelter kitty, but it still beats wandering some dangerous streets in search of food, shelter, and a kind hand that strokes his soft fur. Here is his sad story and perhaps through a Christmas miracle (or even a New Year’s miracle), this super sweet boy will find a forever home where he’ll never have to be stuck in a cage again.

As difficult as it is to wrap one's head around this fact, someone must have dumped him at a community college to fend for himself. The wonderful shelter people believe he was dumped with another cat that they were able to trap easily in the summer. The other kitty was a younger female that looked exactly like Big Boy and was spotted with him early on. So they believe he may have been raised with this other cat. Fortunately for the kitty girl, a rescue took her and she was adopted within two weeks. The shelter contacted her adopter to see if they would be interested in him, but they already had two dogs and her in a small apartment so they couldn’t take in Big Boy.

Big boy is a big purring machine and he makes biscuits when he cuddles in his furry bed and you pet him or talk sweet to him. He loves to be petted and brushed and we imagine he would love to snuggle up on someone’s lap. The beauty of his age and personality is that he would be low key and a great companion in a quiet household. He weighs 13 lbs., and is a BIG, beautiful, fluffy guy. He lived on his own for about 6 months, hiding from people and the regular campus cats that live there. It took him a day or two before he realized the kind shelter people were going to help him and not hurt him.

Nobody knows if he is okay with children, but typically Maine Coons are cherished for their easy going nature which includes being fine with kitty savvy children. The assumption is that he doesn’t like big dogs based on his response to a dog that came up to his cage a few weeks ago. He might have no issues with small, easy going dogs with proper introductions.

Big Boy was neutered and vaccinated 11/18/15 at SPCA Solano County and then about a week later he was taken to Animal Hospital of Fairfield where he had his ears cleaned and was dewormed. He did very well at the vet’s office. Everyone thought he was such a good patient and a love bug. The vet checked him out and declared him in good health other than the fact that he tested positive for FIV. That doesn’t exactly come as a surprise given that his original owner obviously didn’t care enough about him to get him neutered or vaccinated. FIV typically happens in unneutered male cats when they get into a fight over a female cat and there is biting involved. In the United States alone, approximately 1.5 to 3 percent of healthy cats are infected with FIV.
Our organization has successfully placed several FIV positive cats that will enjoy a long, healthy and happy life. Their caring owners will be committed to keeping their kitties inside, providing nutritionally complete and balanced diets and tproviding regular wellness checkups.
