My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, my name is Sergeant Sausage-Snout! (Try saying that three times fast!) You can call me Sarge for short. I am a young, playful, fun-loving dog who is looking for a forever family. I am active and energetic. I love running in the big pen. I tried to play through the fence with a dog being walked on the outside. I am a big puppy really. I am very playful. I love chasing after the balls thrown for me. Many things caught my eye to play whether it be an ID badge from a volunteer's coat, a branch or a stick, a flittering-in-the-wind napkin, ball or a toy - the world is my playground and everything is wonderful. I have this outgoing, curious and upbeat attitude. I'm just a happy guy and that happiness is contagious. I can brighten someone's worst day just by being me. I'll have you laughing in no time with my oversized puppy antics and goofiness. I will always find a way to have fun. I love going for a jog or a run. I am a smart boy who aims to please, so I hope to find a home where they'll teach me all the great things that every dog should know. I love to learn and I love attention. When I'm not playing, I'm a squishy, kissable love muffin. Please give me a chance! Adoption fee: $75. Fee includes testing, deworming, vaccinations, spay/neuter, 60 days of free pet insurance and microchip.

I live at the Oakland County Animal Control and Pet Adoption Center at 1700 Brown Rd in Auburn Hills. You can visit me there any time the shelter is open. The shelter will not put me up for adoption because of my appearance, so my only way out of the shelter alive is through a rescue.

TO ADOPT: apply online: www.pawsforliferescue.org. Complete the adoption/foster application and a volunteer will contact you to answer questions and to schedule a meet-n-greet.

VISIT: Oakland County Animal Control and Pet Adoption Center, 1700 Brown Rd in Auburn Hills any time the shelter is open, Monday - Friday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. or Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Why is labeling a dog such a big deal? A label will stick with a dog for the rest of its life. A label can mean discrimination, losing its home or even death. Labels are a problem for the dogs when we, as the local experts on animals, allow adopters, politicians and community members to think that the label we assign can predict who that dog is or will be.
