My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kalinda: 3 -4 yr old female, white mitted, dilute calico Maine Coon mix

The first thing you notice about this pretty girl is how green her eyes are. My goodness, they are a wonderful green. Her grey and fawn colors, with white, are called “dilute calico” in contrast to regular calico colors of black and red, with white. How great these colors are with her green eyes.

Kalinda, aka Lindy, came from a Southern California/Central Valley shelter where basically there is almost no staff and no cats are adopted out. Volunteers save their lives by arranging big transports of cats ( and dogs) to Northern California rescue groups. I always try to help them, because if they don’t get enough offers from rescues, they won’t make the drive for any of them. When I saw Kalinda’s photo,I knew I could find this beautiful, green-eyed girl a home.

All I know of her history is she was “owner surrendered to the shelter." It is clear to me she was someone’s darling. She is super soft and silky to the touch. If you sit down, and she knows you a little, she will come sit in your lap, curl up and stay. I think she has had a hard time recently, losing her home, and her owner, being in a shelter, taking a long van ride full of dogs and cats, settling into her foster home. She responds to stress by politely holding back. When she first arrived, she spent all her time in her teepee bed. We would pet her, but she stayed there. If we sat next to her, we learned she would promptly come out and get on our laps. Pet her and reassure her and she comes for the attention which she loves.

Lindy needs a solid, stable home. She is meant to be a companion for someone who lives a quiet life and needs a lap warmer. I would not put her with dogs, other cats, or noisy children. I expect she has had a very protected life and has not learned to handle commotion and the unexpected very well. She does not trust other cats and is very reserved when they are around even if they cannot get to her. She had a bad experience I would guess. Somehow, I have a feeling her owner has passed away.

She prefers to eat wet food and only nibbles on kibble occasionally. She seems to eat and drink very little yet she is a nice stable weight. We struggled to find food she liked, until we tried Fancy Feast canned food. "Ah!" she said, "they finally got it right." She eats a little less than two cans of Fancy Feast a day.

Lindy seems very young and healthy. She is a medium small cat and a good weight for her size. She uses her litter box perfectly and has no bad habits. Her voice is quiet and sweet. She is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, combo tested, etc.

Someone will be so happy and so lucky to have this beautiful girl as a loving, warm companion.

Her foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.
