In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you!

Gus is an adorable, cuddly guy who came into rescue as a stray. He is estimated to be four years old and was a little on the heavy side at 19 pounds, but he has lost two pounds and when he loses a couple more, he will be nice and sleek. When Gus came into rescue he had very small bladder stones, which, with antibiotics and prescription dog food, have dissolved or passed. He will, however, need to be on prescription dog food the rest of his life to help prevent a reoccurrence of the stones. The prescription food is not more expensive than regular dog food. In spite of his bladder issues, Gus is well house trained.

Gus is currently fostered with another male Shih Tzu, and although they get along, he really doesn’t seem to care whether he has the company of other dogs. He is very social just loves people too much to bother with other things. He even seems to like the kids he has met, although it is unknown whether he has lived with kids in the past. He has lots of energy and absolutely loves walks and being outside. He would enjoy a fenced in yard to play in because he loves running. Gus will give you lots of cuddles and kisses and entertain you with his antics. He has just now started playing with toys a little bit and will frequently grab a random stuffed toy and tear around the house with it. He would do best in a home where someone is home most of the day and could run/walk and play with him to provide the exercise that he needs. He does occasionally have a bit of separation anxiety, but he seems to do okay while his foster mom is away at work during the day and he is confined to a specific area.

Gus is healthy, neutered, current on vaccinations, is microchipped and on heartworm preventative. His adoption fee is $320.00 plus $23.28 sales tax for a total of $343.28. His foster mom would like his adopters to live within a reasonable driving distance of the Twin Cities and also encourage them to attend the Shih Tzu Reunion held in September.

To meet Gus, please complete an adoption application. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Minnetonka Petco near Ridgedale the last Saturday of every month.
