My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have a sapphire wrap male chinchilla that is looking for his new home. He came to NWI a bit ago, and we estimate he was born 9/14/2015. This makes him right around 5 months old, and now is a great time for him to go to his new home and bond with his new family.

This male’s color is called sapphire. He is a sapphire wrap, which means he also has the ebony gene, which makes the sapphire color wrap around to his belly as well (instead of having sapphire on his back and a white belly). Very pretty color to go with a very sweet chinchilla.

He’s a sweet boy that likes to feel secure. If you can get him tucked in the crook of your arm or between your arm and your shirt, he will just snuggle up to you. He seems to enjoy being held that way a little better and seems more relaxed that way. He can be energetic at times, and would probably enjoy playtime when he is old enough (6+ months). Even if he is being energetic, when you hold him and pet him, he does settle down. Seems to like being petted, and sits nicely. Sweet boy, doesn’t bite.

If you’ve looked at the pictures, you can likely see that this boy was beat up by siblings before he was weaned. His right ear is a bit beat up and is not all there anymore. It actually looks like it's just folded over. It doesn't look "bad." Also, the corner of his right eye looks a bit stretched. But don't you sell this boy short! -- he can still hear, he can see just fine, and he gets around just fine. He's just going to always have a funky looking ear and eye on one side of his body. We think it gives him personality! But he'll make a fine pet.

This chinchilla is currently living alone, and we do not know if he gets along with other chinchillas. If you are curious as to whether he might get along with your, or one of our, chinchillas, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

This chinchilla would make a good “first chinchilla” for someone who’s never had chinchillas before.

This chinchilla will come with some food to start you out (2 pounds of Tradition pellets), a goodie bags of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. He will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet, fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire, and provide proof of cage. If you are unwilling to do these things, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

This chinchilla is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). Sorry, but we do not ship.

This sapphire wrap male is $250 to adopt
