My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

There's nothing quite like puppy energy and silliness...and then they lie quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. They're so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them in a high-kill shelter. Lucy, at only 14 weeks old and about 9 lbs (is estimated to be full grown at about 35 - 40 lbs), was facing the end of her life before it ever began. Farfel's Texas rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this puppy...they rescued Lucy just in time.

This sweet and engaging Labrador Retriever/Border Collie puppy is starting out with a great personality (so sweet and friendly) and great energy - a true pleasure to be around. The excellent results of Lucy's
temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life.

Lucy is incredibly beautiful (this sad shelter photo in no way does her amazing silky coat and dark expressive eyes justice). Once she gets a sudsy bath and a brushing, Lucy will be a great representative of an adorable Lab/Border Collie puppy.

Lucy is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her young age. She's so smart and very engaging...so typical of a healthy, happy-go-lucky Lab puppy. She's also cuddly and very loving...clearly having no memory of her scary start. Since Lucy is just a baby, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome companion. Lucy will form firm bonds with her family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through Puppy Socialization Class followed by positive reinforcement group Obedience Classes. It does take some time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you in the world with appropriate behavior.

Farfel's is open to Lucy finding her forever home with very active, dog-loving retirees or a younger family with lots of energy and patience to train and enjoy a puppy. Lucy is great with children as well. We would prefer to place her in a home with older kids that are very gentle and can participate in a kind and consistent training regimen.

Lucy will be up to date on her vetting. We're hoping that she will be spayed when she arrives from Texas, however a very young puppy like Lucy is often deemed too young to fix. If this is the case, Farfel's will cover all costs for Lucy's microchip and spay at our Denver vet to be in line with our commitment to be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation.

Update: Lucy is in her new foster home in Boulder. She's so sweet and gets along so well with all the dogs and humans in her home! It also appears that she's inches away from being housetrained!

Lucy will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 4/1/16. If interested in this exceptional and very fun and loving best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
