My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other great dogs. Thank you!

Update from Foster Mom: Allie could be one of the sweetest dogs on the planet. She is so tiny compared to the Goldens, but shares their lovely disposition. For a puppy, she is very mellow and requires only moderate exercise. She walks beautifully with a harness. And as if that is not good enough, she is reliably house broken. Allie is timid with new things but will quickly warm up. She is apprehensive around traffic so a more suburban or rural setting may be best. She adores the company of other dogs and would do best in a home with a canine companion who can help her gain confidence. She did well with a dog savvy cat. There are no negatives with this girl. She is a little jewel that needs some polish to get her confidence to shine.

Allie's Story: Allie is an adorable 6 month-old Duck Toller mix who was found with 3 puppies in Alabama. Our vet does not believe the puppies belong to Allie as she does not appear to have had a litter of pups. However, one of the pups looks just like Allie, so they are probably the offspring of the same mother.

Allie is as cute as can be and has a look that resembles a fox, with her magnificent red coat! On top of that, she has the most stunning amber eyes imaginable and a cute chocolatey colored nose. Allie is a sweet girl who is soaks up affection and wants to be close to her human. She weighs only about 30 pounds and will fill out as she matures. We estimate that her healthy adult weight will be about 40-45 pounds. Allie is good with other dogs and enjoys playing with them. She is also enjoyed the children in her temporary foster home in MA, including a special needs child. Allie is learning house manners with her foster family. Her temporary foster mom shares, "Allie has arrived and is doing great. She is the sweetest little girl. She's a joy. Walks beautifully on a leash, so sweet with Riley and loves the fenced yard. And she wiggles all over when she wags her tail. I'm beginning to wish she was staying. If I didn't have a dog already, I wouldn't let her go. She will be an amazing addition to any family!"

Duck Tollers have become popular partly due to their size (which is small, compared to any of the other retriever breeds), combined with their beauty, intelligence, versatility, strong working drive and friendly nature. But size and visual appeal should not be the determining factor in selecting a Toller (or any other breed of dog) as a canine companion. A Duck Toller needs lots of mental stimulation and exercise. They require a long, brisk walk or jog daily, and they are always ready for action, desiring a job to do or some kind of activity. A great game of fetch is a favorite! This is not a good choice of dog for sedentary people so couch potatoes need not inquire!

Allie is heartworm negative, spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and micro-chipped. She is an easy-going girl with a moderate energy level, even at 6 months of age.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

SGRR Adoption Fees (subject to change)**
Puppies under 6 months $650
Young dogs 6 months - 6 years $550
Young dogs - Special Needs $450
Senior dogs 7 - 9 years $450
Seniors dogs 10 years and older $350
Senior dogs - Special Needs $300
Young Bonded Pairs $850
Senior Bonded Pairs $750

**Please note: The fees listed represent a slight increase and are effective for applications received after June 1 2014. We regret the need to increase the fees for our dogs, but found it necessary due to the increased costs we are faced with for each dog's care and placement.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
