My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have a pair of adult female chinchillas that are looking for their new home. These girls have been here for a bit of time as they’ve needed to settle in, but they are now finally ready to leave and explore the world outside of the rescue! They are looking for a quiet home preferably with no little children.

These chinchillas are Mia & Evie. They are a pair of female chinchillas, Mia is the grey and Evie is the black velvet. Mia’s birthdate is 7/3/09, making her 6, going on 7, years old. Evie was born on 7/11/2011, making her 4, going on 5, years old.

A little bit about this pair of chins -- Mia really needs to warm up to you at her own speed. She doesn't like interaction pushed on her -- for example, when I hand out cheerios, if she’s not quite done with her cheerio and I try to hand her another one, sometimes she might spray. If she is in her house, you want to leave her be until she comes out, as she feels safe in there and will defend her house… also with spraying. The key learning point here is that she needs to feel comfortable with you and you need to take things slow with her. She's a good chin and we're sure she'll come around. Those are the only times we've been sprayed and we've had these two awhile.

But other than this little quirk of hers, wanting to take things at her pace, this pair is very nice chins! Both gladly take cheerios from your hand, and let's note, this is likely the key to winning over their little furry hearts.

Evie does pretty well with being held and petted. She is pretty energetic and wants to check out the area around her, so she would probably enjoy much more having playtime with you in a large room or playpen. She has to feel comfortable in your arms, and not feel like you are going to drop her, for her to settle down and relax... but when she does, she will sit reasonably well in your arms when you're petting her. She's a sweet girl and has never bitten.

Mia is the chin more likely to be found in the shadows of the cage, she's the shy-er one of the two. She's not as outgoing, but oddly enough, when you do have her out of the cage and in your arms, she actually does better than Evie as far as being handled and petted. She sits nicely in your arms when you're petting her. Evie has never bitten either. Sweet chins, just need a patient owner.

These chinchillas are a pair and can only be adopted out together.

As with all our chinchillas/rescues, Mia & Evie will come with 4 pounds of food to start you out (Tradition pellets), some chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. We also have additional supplies for sale, including our popular Starter Package ($22) which contains 5 pounds of food, 2 pounds of dust, 24-28 oz of hay, some chews/treats, and a hanging toy.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet and fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

These chinchillas are located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). Sorry, but we do not ship.

The adoption fee for Mia & Evie is $175
