My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Lucy, a very happy girl who is somewhere around the age of one year old. She appears to be a wire-haired terrier mixed with perhaps schnauzer, and this fun loving gal has all the personality traits associated with both of these loveable breeds. She is described by her current foster home as loving, energetic, alert, and loyal. Lucy was found as a stray in southern Indiana and no owner showed up to claim her. There was a successful adoption at a foster home in Illinois so Lucy won a spot on the transport up north to Rover Rescue.

Lucy arrived at her foster home ready to meet everyone! She met the 2 senior shepherds in the home and respected them enough to not pester them. It was when she met a 2 year old German Shepherd and a 1 year old husky in her foster home that she found her playmates! Lucy is a great dog for larger dogs - she romps and plays with males and females very nicely as long as they are her size or larger. Her foster mom is working with her and how she plays with the smaller dogs that she is introduced to in her foster home. She has learned to respect the Chihuahua who lives in the home as well as another Chihuahua who is a foster as well. She eats with them nicely and is calm with them in the house, but when they outside and to playing, Lucy doesn't seem to know when to quit- something that indicates perhaps she wasn't with her mother for as long as a litter should be. While the bigger dogs correct her and she stops, she doesn't always want to read the warning signs the little ones are giving her to stop. Lucy would not be ideal for a home that has a cat as the only other pet.

Lucy will need to have a forever family who is willing to include them in their life and meet her physical and mental demands. She is a very smart girl who loves to be active! A fenced yard is a must with her because from the time she wakes up, she is ready to go! A secure place to play and train will be necessary for this little girl! Lucy's foster family has begun basic obedience skills with Lucy as well as introducing her to leash walking. Lucy can sometimes be very teenager-like where she knows what she is supposed to do yet tries to do it her way at times, lol! With gentle guidance and consistency, Lucy is proving to be a very intelligent dog who responds well with her people.

Lucy is great with kids and currently lives with 5 kids ages 3-16 years old. She runs alongside them and plays with them nicely. We have seen no herding, nipping, or jumping from her. She loves balls and would be a champion soccer player if they only let dogs compete! She's not overly barky when she is outside with them but doesn't hesitate to let her foster mom know if someone is walking on the path. She is good about quieting down and her foster mom appreciates the heads up that someone is around the kids.

Lucy is housetrained and crate trained. She easily goes in the crate when her foster family leaves. She also takes a nap in her crate each day from 1-3 pm since her family is home so much. They want her to stay in the habit of seeing her crate as a safe den. Lucy is up to date with her vaccinations including bordetella and rabies. She is spayed and her adoption fee of $200 includes a certificate for a free microchipping at a Rover Rescue veterinarian. If you are interested in learning more about Lucy, please call her foster mom Mary at 630-585-7927 for a phone interview. She will have some questions for you as well as answer any questions you have about this happy girl!
