Here's what the humans have to say about me:
"Bella" is an approx 2-yo spayed female GSD who is affectionate, energetic, and well-mannered. Bella is friendly with people of all ages, including young children. She’s comfortable meeting strangers without any formal introduction. She did great with a neighbor’s grandkids (approx 5 & 7 yrs old), allowing them to pet her without any nervousness on her part. She has no food guarding issues w/ people or other dogs.
Bella is great with other dogs, and presently lives with a 5-yo male GSD and a 10-yo female Lab, both who she gets along well with. She actually prefers playing w/’ the Lab over the GSD, because the GSD plays fairly rough and she’s not quite comfortable yet with that style of play. However, she’s becoming more comfortable each day.
Bella has a strong prey drive and really goes after squirrels and birds, so we are seeking a home without cats for her.
Bella is fully housetrained and well behaved inside. Her first foster caretakers routinely left her inside uncrated without any problems when they were gone during the day. They did have a neighbor come by after about 4 hrs to let Bella and their other dogs out for a break. Bella’s present foster caretakers crate her when they plan to be gone for over 3 hours, but only because they’ve seen her put her paws on the windows facing the front of the house. Bella does fine in the crate.
Bella already knew the “sit” and “off” commands when we took her in, and is treat-motivated for learning new commands. She has quickly learned the boundaries inside her foster caretakers’ house (eg, not allowed in kitchen).
Bella walks OK on leash, but does pull somewhat—and pulls especially hard when she sees other dogs. Her first foster caretaker walked her with a harness and said it made a world of difference in controlling Bella. Her present foster caretaker occasionally jogs with her and says that she does perfectly on leash at a jogging pace.
Bella will make a great companion for a family with kids and other dogs, though she’d probably be OK as an only dog, too.
GSRSV rescued Bella from the Stanislaus County Shelter on 5-19-16, where she had been surrendered by her owners for reasons unknown. Bella is presently in a foster home in Land Park. Her adoption fee is $260.
