My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOUISE
8 Month Old Female, Seal Point Ragdoll mix.

She was alone in the back of a shelter cage trying to press herself thru the stainless floor. She was very frightened. The day before she had been spayed and a bit of her right ear tip had been cut off. She was a little thing, four months old with such blue eyes, in such a dark head, with the very lightest cream colored body.

My friend and I were at the shelter to see another kitty. Having seen Louise’s picture on the Needs Rescue list, I asked to stop by her cage just to see her. We were surprised to learn that by chance she was within a couple hours that afternoon of being put out to be a street cat near where she was found. My friend reached in slowly and petted her. I think she was so frightened that she didn’t move. She showed no aggression, just fear and vulnerability. Where was her family, her mom to comfort her? How did she end up so alone so young? We could not imagine this baby girl recovering from her spay trying to fend for herself out on the streets in just a few hours. Of course, we brought her home with us.

We gave Louise her own private space. For a while, she shrank from our touch but tolerated us. She hid. We gave her a teepee to hide in. She loved it. Then she moved to lie in a basket from which would warily watch us. Our cat cuddler volunteers played with her and loved her up. After a while, she suddenly accepted us. She will startle easily, but now she comes for love from strangers. She is a head butter. She is very sweet, a darling with an appeal that just pulls at your heart.

I think she is just getting ready to venture out to play with other kittens. Louise happily plays madly with toys all by herself. Her happiness is beautiful to watch.

Louise is ready now for her own family, new parents who can give her safety and love. She is blossoming. She needs a quiet, stable home with no dogs or young children. Other gentle kitties would probably be fine for her. She would probably enjoy a play buddy kitten or an older cat parent to take her under his or her wing.

Her new family needs to understand she will likely be quite shy initially when she first goes home until she realizes she is safe. Her family will have the pleasure of watching her unfold and become confident in her home and with her humans. How great. Louise will become a devoted, beautiful companion.

Louise eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.

Louise's foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.
