My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you've ever wanted to save a life and give a dog more than he ever imagined possible, then you must meet Mel! He's an amazing dog - all the way around. He is loving, smart, well-mannered and was rescued from a life of abandonment and neglect. Mel and another dog were in the backyard of a residence where they were basically forgotten about. Their owner was gone and although family and friends claimed they would care for the dogs, that did not happen. Mel and his buddy were living in their own waste and other debris. Their only access to water was dirty rain water and they had no shelter to keep them protected. Not only did Mel endure all of that, but when he was first rescued, he had developed pneumonia and he battled through that as well. Now Mel is healthy as can be and very much wants a family to go home with. He is extremely loving and is what we call a "social butterfly." He wants everyone to come up and greet him and is very satisfied with hogging all of the attention. Mel is very playful, but he also likes to lounge around and have nap time when he can. He has shown no aggression toward other dogs. He knows "sit" and "down" and is working on other commands. What a very smart boy Mel is! He will make a great companion, lifelong friend and devoted family member. Mel aced his recent temperament test. This boy got a perfect score ... one of the only dogs so far to do so!

Adoption Process:
Send an email to pawsforliferescue@comcast.net or shana@fortheloveofpits.org to tell us you're interested in Mel and we'll send you a questionnaire that will help us make the best match for you and your new pet. We then arrange a location, date and time for you to meet some pets. If the meeting goes well and everyone is happy, you begin the two-week trial run with the pet as part of your family. This is a trial period to give your dog or cat time to adjust to their new home, new people, new routine, etc., and for you to decide if it's a match and the right pet for you. At the end of two weeks (some people extend the trial time and that's fine too), if everyone is happy, then we finalize the adoption.
