Hi everyone! My name is Cleo! I am a kind-hearted, 6-year-old, spayed female piglet ... I mean dog ... in need of a home for life and someone to love. It was said by the shelter vet staff that I "am the happiest dog in the world." I passed my temperament test with flying colors. My body never stopped wiggling. The smile never left my face. My tail never stopped wagging and, at times, it actually wagged my entire body. My happy-go-lucky, upbeat attitude is contagious, by the way. You'll find yourself smiling just from being around me. I have that effect on people. I am an absolute doll. I am friendly, loving and very affectionate. I adore companionship and attention. I am overweight at 70 lbs and I need to lose weight; thus, the piglet reference. But piglets are cute too! I love to snuggle and cuddle, be petted and scratched. I love to spend time with people, to take walks and to roll in the grass soaking up the sunshine. I had a great life up until now. My parents divorced and sent me here to the shelter. I hope someone finds me and adopts me soon. It's lonely here. I am a smart, well-behaved girl who knows some obedience commands. Per my previous owner, I'm good with baths and I like being petted and brushed, taking car rides and being around children. I love kids and I'm very good with them. I love spending time with humans. I live at the Oakland County Animal Control and Pet Adoption Center at 1700 Brown Rd in Auburn Hills. You can visit me there any time the shelter is open. The shelter will not put me up for adoption because of my appearance, so my only way out of the shelter alive is through a rescue.

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog
as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
Why is labeling a dog such a big deal? A label will stick with a dog for the rest of its life. A label can mean discrimination, losing its home or even death. Labels are a problem for the dogs when we, as the local experts on animals, allow adopters, politicians and community members to think that the label we assign can predict who that dog is or will be.

Adoption Process: Complete the application at
www.pawsforliferescue.org. We then arrange a location, date and time for you to meet some pets. If the meeting goes well and everyone is happy, you begin the mandatory, minimum two-week adjustment period with the pet as part of your family. You will pay the non-refundable adoption fee at the start of the two-week adjustment period. This pending period allows your new dog or cat time to adjust to their new home, new people, new routine, etc., and for you to decide if it's a match and the right pet for you. At the end of two weeks (some people extend the adjustment time as needed and that's fine too), if everyone is happy, then we finalize the adoption. Feel free to email if you have any questions.
