My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Salem!
Salem is a 12lb Chihuahua mix looking for a home that will fit his high energy spirit. He is 2 yrs old but still acts like a puppy. He loves to chase after his squeek toys and loves to chew on rawhides, when he’s done with them he will hide them throughout the house for only him to find later when he wants a chew again.

He gets along with cats and other submissive dogs and he is good with children but because of his high activity level he should be placed in a home with children 12 yrs and up.

Salem is excellent in his crate but prefers to be out and active with his people. He is more than willing to snuggle with you on the sofa or lay at your feet. He will follow you from room to room to be nearby or hiding under blankets if you let him, he also loves to snuggle under the covers when its bedtime.

Once you gain Salem’s trust he will follow you around wherever you go and is truly a lap dog smothering you with all the kisses you’ll allow him to or roll over for belly rubs.

Still working on house-training but Salem is getting better everyday, we have almost eliminated accidents by going outside immediately after coming out of his crate and when out and about for extended periods of time repeating outside trips every few hours giving positive praise for “potty outside.”

Salem is still learning leash manners and gets pretty excited when he’s out for walks, he eventually settles into a walking rhythm but needs to be reminded at first not to pull.

He is very treat motivated and already knows sit, stay, come, down, crate and paw commands and will be happy to show you for a tasty treat or two.

Who’s ready to let Salem into their home and heart?

Salem’s adoption fee is $250 and he is being fostered in southeastern Wisconsin. Because all our Cupids are fostered in private homes, an approved application MUST be on file before proceeding with a meet-and-greet. The online application can be found at http://www.caninecupids.org/adopt-.html.

Our Thoughts on Visual Breed Identification
Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable. For most of our adoptable Cupids we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We think it’s most important is to get to know each dog as an individual! We then do our best to describe each of our adoptable Cupids based on their personalities in order to determine whether they’ll make good companions based on prospective adopters’ lifestyles. Dog behavior is not exclusive to breed — it’s a complex mix of nature and nurture.
