Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Beau has had a very hard life. He was really skinny and in bad shape when he was adopted from a shelter a year ago. Then, he was surrendered to a different shelter and weighed even less. He was horribly matted, super skinny, and his teeth were awful when EARS got him. We have no idea how old Beau is. The vet guessed that he might be as old as 10, even though a year ago the shelter vet estimated that he was only 2. He is probably closer to 5. Beau weighs about 7.2 lbs now, up from 6.2 pounds when we got him, but he still needs to gain more weight. Luckily, his blood work was normal. Beau did not know how to eat from a bowl, but is learning and improving every day. The amount of neglect this dog has endured is incredible. However, he is doing much better now in a foster home with loving parents and a sweet, gentle dog for a companion. He is making progress with his house training. Beau LOVES kids and seems to prefer them over adults. He does not like to be picked up, nor is he a lap dog, but Beau is very affectionate when someone sits on the floor to keep him company. He likes to give kisses as a reward for a good scratch. He will ask for affection by licking the air! He wants to be close to his foster parents, especially when he is eating. He likes to grab a bite, find his humans, and eat at their feet! This friendly guy loves being around his foster family and follows them around the house. He really likes his crate and is very obedient when it is time to go into it. He sleeps all night and does not make a sound! Beau would probably be fine as the only dog but needs an experienced owner who will not push him and will give him the time and consistency he needs as he acclimates to his furever home.
We are a RESCUE GROUP, not a shelter, and all of our animals are in foster homes. To start the adoption process, email us at adoptions@earstexas.org requesting an application. Submitting an application does not commit you in any way, but helps us make the best match between people and our available dogs. All of the dogs in our program are inside dogs and are completely vetted including all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, free of internal parasites, microchipped, heartworm negative and on prevention before adoption. Our adoption process includes an application, check of vet records or personal references, interview, neutral site meet & greet with the dog and your family, and a home visit.
