Sammy's Story...
Hey there, my name is Sammy. I had a forever home when I was little but my owners couldn’t keep me anymore. Lucky for me, Henrico Humane Society stepped in and found me a foster home. My foster mom tells me there are nice people out there who give sweet boys like me second chances.

I’m still figuring things out in my new foster, but I already know that I love people. I love to snuggle, and I’m super affectionate. There are other kitties in my foster home, and I don’t really think I like them. I think I would prefer a home where I can be spoiled with all of the attention.

Check back in on me soon to learn more about my adventures in my foster home. Or better yet, take me home with you so we can start our own adventure together!

The best way to ensure you have a good chance of adopting me is to fill out an online application at We take applications on a first come, first served basis, so applying quickly is always recommended!

Our adoption events are every Saturday, excluding holidays, at the Petco next to Trader Joe's in Short Pump from 11:00 to 3:00 (11331 West Broad Street, Glen Allen, VA). To find out if I will be attending this week's adoption event, please email

If you're not sure which cat you're interested in, or are just beginning to search for a companion, our adoption coordinators can help! Just fill out a short questionnaire at that will help us match you with our wonderful cats or visit us at our adoption stand.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Sammy, a Richmond Maine Coon cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Maine Coon for sale in Richmond, or seeking a Maine Coon cat from a breeder in Richmond.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Richmond already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Richmond breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Maine Coon breeders who help with Maine Coon rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Richmond paves the way for another one to be saved.
