My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

✰✰ MAX Male 8 – 9 months & AVAILABLE - for more photos of MAX please click http://norcalbcrescue.org/max_2016.html ✰✰

MAX is an attractive little black and white boy who is about 8-9 months old and only 35 pounds. He has a very charming one ear up, one ear down look, and beautiful hazel eyes. He was found as a stray, but since staying at his foster home, he has proven to be a very friendly and active border collie.

MAX is a very sweet boy. He loves to play with other dogs! He can be a little insistent, but he is also happy to play with toys, and is easily distracted. He will respect an older dog’s space (but will never turn down an invitation). Like all border collies, he is super smart and very intuitive, but as he is young, rules are new to him, so he just needs a reminder here and there. He likes to chew, and would love an antler or knuckle bone to pass the time. He may be a little shy in new places, but warms up quickly with encouragement. MAX has been the easiest foster to train so far; he responds well to treats, and knows when it’s time to engage in a training session. We do 2-3 short sessions a day, and he is an A+ student. He really wants to understand you, and is eager to please; when you’re happy, he’s happy.

Since MAX is young, we are working on his focus. He has learned his name, and will respond with eye contact. He also has a reliable sit, and will be learning to “down”. He can be a bit mouthy, but he just wants to play. He also has a bit of a habit jumping up on people, but is doing very well with replacing that behavior with a sit. However, he responds quickly to “ah-ah”. We have turned his jumping up into a trick: “hugs!”, and balanced that with “off”. MAX has fairly good recall, and will come running to his people; he likes to follow his family around. He is a puppy, and will definitely benefit from the structure and consistent training that most puppies secretly crave. He likes to stay busy indoors, but is not above finding a corner to curl up and relax. He is very energetic and loves to explore the great outdoors; he would make a good running partner. He is lean and athletic with long legs, and with training might even turn out to be an agility prospect. Although he was shy with people when he first came to his foster home, we know he definitely wants to bond to people. He loves to cuddle and receive petting. MAX will lean into you and even sit on your lap!

MAX is crate-trained. He can get excited in the crate if people or other dogs are being busy outside, but in general, he knows it is a place to settle down. He has learned to sit and wait to be released from his crate. With treats and verbal praise, he has no problem hopping inside, and after a week, will even go in on command! He is also house-trained. Max needs a home with a dog-savvy cat or no cats. He would be happy as an only dog, but would also love a sibling dog who will help teach him manners. Overall, he is a very sweet, happy boy, who would thrive in an active home with lots of attention and consistent training.

MAX is micro-chipped, neutered, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations.
