Facts about dark tan female chinchilla

  • Species: Chinchilla
  • Color: Tan Or Beige
  • Age: Adult
  • Sex: Female
  • Hair: Unknown
We have a dark tan female chinchilla who’s looking for her new home. This chinchilla is what’s known as a “culled breeder” – she was used for breeding at a large ranch, and when she no longer was producing babies, she was pulled from breeding, and was going to be put down. Rather than have her meet that fate, we took in her, and about 15 other females from that location, and now they are slowly becoming available to pet homes!

This dark tan female is an energetic girl! She loves bouncing around her cage and checking everything out. I put her in a more open cage for pictures, and she was bouncing around and popcorning everywhere – she would probably just adore the pet life! This girl is relatively easy to catch, and when you hold her, she actually sits pretty nicely in your arms to be petted. However, she is definitely a curious girl, and would likely enjoy the pet life with a multi-shelf cage and all sorts of fun things to explore and chew on. Very sweet girl, doesn’t bite.

This female was born in 2012, making her right about 4 years old. Her color is called dark tan, which gives her a chocolate-y color all over her body, including her belly.

She would make a great “first chinchilla” for someone who’s never had one before.

This chinchilla is currently caged alone, and we do not know how she would do with other chinchillas. If you are interested in pairing her up with your, or one of our, chinchillas, let us know and we’ll see what we can do. However, we make no guarantees that any two chinchillas will get along.

This chinchilla will come with some food to start you out (Tradition pellets), a goodie bag of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. She will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet and fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

This dark tan female chinchilla is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). Sorry, but we do not ship.

This dark tan female chinchilla’s adoption fee is $100

About NWI Chinchilla Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

I am Ashley Gajda and I am the "owner" (if it could even be called that) of the rescue. I opened this rescue because I hated to see small pets without homes, and wanted to help. We opened the rescue in 2003 with very few cages, but have since expanded and now take in a variety of small animals and have plenty of spare cages. It is just me running the rescue, so I'm always looking for volunteers to help with whatever needs it at the time.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Visiting our adoptable animals requires an appointment. To make an appointment with us, give us a call 219-789-0026. The rescue is run out of our house, so we are not always home for someone to view the animals. We are home most afternoons/evenings, and people are welcome to come visit then (after having called and set up an appointment).

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoption process requires all of our potential homes to read our care packet and fill out an adoption form. The care packet talks about the care and needs of the specific animal the home is looking to adopt. The adoption form asks questions about the type of home the animal will be going into, what type of cage will be used, what type of food the animal will be fed, and so on - questions to verify that the pet will be cared for well in its new home. There is no application fee with our rescue, the only fees are the adoption fees for the pets.
