My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have a black velvet female chinchilla looking for her new home. Her name is Emily and she came to the rescue when her owner could no longer care for her. Emily is a 3-4 year old black velvet female chinchilla.

Emily is a chinchilla with a multifaceted personality. Depending on the day, we might describe her as a sweet girl, an escape artist, a mischievous turd, or a territorial chinchilla. All of these personalities have their place in Emily’s life.

Let me start with Emily’s house. She LOVES her house and she is super territorial over it. Well, it doesn’t even matter if it’s a house specifically, if she is in something that could vaguely be considered to have a roof, it is HERS she you better not mess with her while she is in it. It would not be uncommon for you to get sprayed while trying to get her out of her house, if she’s feeling especially moody that day. She has never bitten, but she will kack and if you really push her and try to get her out of the house when she doesn’t want to come out (and let’s be honest, why are you making the princess come out if she doesn’t want to??), then you may get sprayed.

If she’s not in her house, all is well! She’s a bit of a shy-er girl, so if you leave the cage door open and just calmly sit there, she may get curious and eventually come out of the house (gasp!) and come check you out. Patience is the key with this princess, as once you get her out of the house and into your arms, she is actually really sweet! She wants to act tough and wants to seem like she’s the big high and mighty queen, but in reality, she’s just protecting her domain, but actually means no harm.

She does pretty well with being handled and petted once you have her out, though she definitely is more of an active girl (when she comes out of the house) and does like to explore! She’s a mischievous little thing as well, and when you are trying to catch her – if she doesn’t want to be caught, she will evade you like a pro! You’d never guess that she’s only 3-4 years old with her ninja-like skills of evasion! She will find a way to get under things and behind things in such a way that she fits… but good luck getting ahold of her!

She really is a sweet girl, and we’re sure that for the right owner, who will put the time in with her, she would be a lot of fun. I have no doubt that she would enjoy playtime (and would enjoy evading being caught to go back into the cage!) and would enjoy more one-on-one attention. She’s been doing fine here, eating, drinking, pooing, and everything she should be, just needs that special new owner! Oh and did I mention that she LOVES scritches?!? She will just melt into your hands if you get the right spot… You know you’re the one who wants to be one of the princess’s loyal subjects…

Emily’s color is called black velvet, which means she is a dark black color over much of her body, and then has a nice white belly.

Emily is more of a chinchilla for an advanced home, or at the minimum, a patient adopter who is not easily intimidated by a challenge. She has never bitten anyone, and she’s not actually mean, she’s just a smidge bit territorial over her kingdom (aka house) and just needs to meet her match.

Emily will come with some food to start you out (two pounds of Mazuri pellets), a goodie bag of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. She will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet and fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

Emily is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). Sorry, but we do not ship.

The adoption fee for Emily would normally be $100, but due to our Fall Fiesta sale, adopt her for $75! Must be adopted or have deposit down by November 30th to qualify. Sorry, but our multi-chin discount does not apply while this sale is going on.
