My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rachel
Born ~May 2016, Female, Calico Maine Coon Mix

Tortie kitties have red and dark brown fur. They are, like black kitties, very hard to photograph. Rachael is mostly a tortie kitty but her one golden toe makes her technically a calico. Calicos are full of mischief and unexpected opinions.

This kitten was on the euthanasia list at the shelter due to her having a very mild case cat lice. Shelters do not have the time to deal with medical troubles like this. (Just so you know, cat lice cannot spread to humans who can only get human lice, or dogs who only get dog lice. Cat lice can only live on cats.) They are easy to kill. I now know quite a lot about them. We overdid it in treating these kitties since we were extra careful (a little paranoid) but we can now say with assurance Rachael and her brother are totally free of lice. So, no worries.

Rachael has had a boring time in her young life – 6 weeks in isolation. She is, thus, a little quiet. Not full of it as she will be soon. She has had a tough beginning as is true of most of the kittens I take in. I take the ones who the shelter won’t keep for some reason or other. They end up fine after a little TLC. Rachael was in an isolation room with her brother Redmond, who is a red tabby Maine Coon mix. They are very closely bonded from their time together and need to go home as a pair. They make a beautiful Halloween colored pair.

Rachael is a beautiful little girl kitten. She has lovely, rich-colored fur which you can see in her photos. I love the wonderful tuffs she already has growing on her ears. One of her hind feet is yellow. She is a character and already full of opinions. Smaller than her brother I expect she will be the boss and trouble maker of the two. He goes to her for company and security. Together they are a lot of fun. She enjoys attention and is a loving purr bucket.

Rachael eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.

Her foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.

Contact Harriet at (831) 336-2983 or toharrietjane@comcast.net if you have questions, or send an Adoption Application. If you are unable to reach Harriet by phone or email, email us at Info@purebredsplus.org.

NOTE: We prefer families with children bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone’s best interest!
