My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATE: Hazel (AKA sweetie pie) is in a foster home now and is available for adoption!!

FOSTER HOME UPDATE: Hazel is doing great! Gaining weight, very playful and getting along with our dogs, has learned "sit", "paw", "kennel", going potty outside, and doing better with her crate everyday. I have attached some more pictures of her. She is just the sweetest!

OUR ORIGINAL PLEA / HAZEL'S SHELTER INFO:

PLEASE HELP US SAVE HAZEL!!! She's currently in a high-kill shelter and urgently needs a forever or foster home before it's too late. Time is running out for this precious sweetheart who is just a puppy. Her life has barely begun and is at risk of being taken away from her:( Please don't let that happen - apply or reach out with questions today. Hazel may not have tomorrow:(

Hazel is approximately 8 months old, 33.8lbs and such a calm sweet puppy who allowed all handling at the shelter where she was surrendered as a stray.

SAFER ASSESSMENT: 10/12/16

Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted.

Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.

Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft

Squeeze 1/2: Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed or back.

Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy or rawhide to you.

Summary: Hazel displayed no concern during her behavior assessment.

PLAYGROUP: Hazel was surrender as a stray, so her previous behavior with other dogs is unknown. When off leash at the care center, Hazel is initially nervous, displaying a tucked tail while greeting. She eventually solicits gentle play with soft play bows and bounces. Hazel was confident and engages in gentle play with a smaller puppy. In a group of larger puppies, Hazel is more nervous and is tolerant of their play solicitations but does not engage.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 10/10/16

During her examination, Hazel readily allowed all handling without issue.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (Suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)

With further playgroup sessions, Hazel has become more relaxed and engages in puppy play in a group of big male and female dogs. The Behavior Department recommends that Hazel be placed in a home with dogs that are comfortable with her puppy play style and energy and that her future owners continue her positive socialization around dogs.
