I am a bit of an enigma! From the outside I look like the typical old couch potato but I have some tricks up my sleeve that Foster Mom and Dad think are pretty neat. They tell me that I must have had a family at some point in my life. They say I'm better trained than the resident beagle. :)
It has been an exciting first two weeks in my foster home. I showed that I am potty trained and I walk really well on a leash. I got to go to Camp Bow Wow for doggy daycare with my foster sister and had a blast.
At the end of my first week I started to venture off into the rest of my foster home and found the toy basket and the motherload of tennis balls. It is heaven! This is when I revealed my next secret to Foster Mom and Dad. I love to play fetch and I even know how to bring it back and drop it in your hand on command. I also know 'lie down' too. Foster Mom and Dad can't figure out how I know so much and I'm not telling!!!
Now for the trick Foster Mom and Dad are not too thrilled with, I know how to climb baby gates. They caught me the other day and my cover was blown. I'm so tiny at 17 pounds that I scale them pretty easy so now I get to stay in my crate during the day. I didn't like it at first but I'm learning that the family comes back so it is okay, no need to panic. I just really want to follow foster daddy around the house.
I'm really looking forward to meeting a family that likes to play fetch and then spend some time cuddling on the couch in the evening.
Note from Lena's foster family:
Lena was found as a stray that had a bad flea allergy. She is now flea free and currently growing fur back on her tail.
The vet at intake put her at 12 years old but with her activity level it is hard to tell how old she is. She has gone to Camp Bow Wow for a full day of daycare and still comes home ready to play when our 3 yr old beagle crawls in her crate to sleep the rest of the night.
Lena is a loving dog that tends to follow her people around, she just wants to be right next to you at all times.

About Midwest Beagle Rescue, Education and Welfare - Michigan

About Our Rescue Group...

BREW Midwest is the midwest region of BREW Inc. (Beagle Rescue, Education and Welfare). We are a network of volunteers and foster homes across Western PA, OH, MI, IN and IL.

Our Mission:
*Rescue beagles in danger of euthanasia from shelters
*Help beagles that have been removed from neglectful or abusive situations
*Educate families about beagles and their special qualities
*Find kind, loving families for homeless or abandoned beagles.

BREW is dedicated to rescuing and re-homing beagles. The main focus is beagles in shelters that are faced with imminent extermination. BREW works with shelters and animal control facilities and adopt beagles to families throughout our region. In addition to our rescue efforts, BREW is dedicated to increasing public awareness of pet overpopulation and encouraging pet owners to spay and neuter their pets. Towards that end, no beagle over six months of age is adopted from BREW without being spayed or neutered. BREW also works to alert people about the disadvantages of purchasing pets from a "pet store."
