My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What is your name?
Hi, my name is Harlow.

How old are you?
I’m somewhere around 2 years old in human years.

What do you look like?
I am beautiful! The color of my fur is called blue-fawn. I have a very healthy coat and teeth. My foster mom said I must have been well loved at the shelter because she couldn’t seem to find my waist… Now that I am active in my new foster home, my figure is really improving!

What do you like to eat?
I love my kibble and I love to offer my silly “sideways sit” for a treat or two!

What kind of personality do you have?
I am dorky, happy and energetic! My mom said I am a Golden Retriever in a pit bull body. I do love to cuddle and I have no respect for your bubble, so be prepared to have all 50+ pounds of me in your lap if you open your arms. I am a very submissive girl, my mom is working with me to build up my confidence.

Describe your perfect day:
My perfect day would include lots of playtime! I need at least one walk or jog plus one good round of Frisbee or chuck-it each day. I would also include playtime with the other dogs, cuddle time with my foster family and as many peanut butter kongs as you are willing to provide to me in one day!

What is your favorite toy?
I love toys! I mean I really love toys! In the house I love chewing on a kong or an elk antler! In the yard I love to play ball (I especially like chuck-it balls) and Frisbee.

Do you know any tricks?
I know how to sit. My sit is really cute because I only sit sideways. I am learning “down” but for some reason I prefer to melt into a play dead position instead of down. My foster mom laughs a lot during our training sessions. I have learned that my dog bed is my chill out spot and I am very good about laying on my bed and relaxing there while my foster family is having dinner or doing things that might not involve me!

What scares you?
I act like I am broken if someone is angry. I run to my dog bed and hide my face if I think I might be the one in trouble, even though I never get in trouble in my foster home. I am a sensitive girl when it comes to humans, sometimes when a new person approaches me I have a potty accident. I only do this occasionally and only with certain new people. I am getting better about not doing this each day as we practice meeting more and more new people. Today my foster mom was very proud of me. I met an electrician man and I said hi without peeing at all! Other than that I am not really fearful at all, I am a pretty happy go lucky girl over all.

Do you like cats?
My mom hasn’t seen me around any cats, so she isn’t really sure, but I did meet Dr. Johnson’s cat at the vet office and I just wanted to be friends in a very nice and respectful way.

Do you have any doggie best friends?
My foster brother Zephyr and my foster sister Luna are both pit bulls like me, I live with them and we get along great! I also like to play with some other doggies that come to visit. I get really goofy and silly when I play but I can take and respect a correction from the other dogs.

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Wherever the people are! Most specifically, I want to be lying on my people’s laps or chasing a ball or Frisbee.

How is your health?
My health is great now! I had a nasty cough when I left the shelter, but I am finally completely over it! Dr. Johnson said it looks like I had a litter of puppies last season, I was a little “saggy” when my foster mom met me at the shelter but I am building muscle and firming up more and more each day, soon you wont even be able to tell that I was a teen mom.

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?
I share a home with my foster mom, Jessi and a little crazy human toddler named Ava. I also have Zephyr and Luna my foster doggie brother and sister.

Where do you hang out when you are home alone?
When I am the only one in the house, my foster parents put me in my crate. If I am offered a stuffed kong once I hop into my crate and will lay right down and start going to town on it, I don’t even notice my foster mom leaving if I have my kong.

Where do you sleep?
I usually sleep in my crate next to my foster mom’s bed. But every once in a while she invites me to cuddle with her in bed for a few minutes. I love to cuddle!

What do you love about your foster family?
I love that they have been patient with me and helped show me the ropes about living in a house. They saw potential in me and cared enough to take me in. They are helping prepare me for my forever family, which I’m very grateful for.

What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents?
I was found as a stray in the city. St. Louis Animal Control picked my up and brought me to the shelter to keep me safe. It wasn’t long before my foster mom stopped by my kennel to say hi and next thing I knew I was on a freedom ride with Even Chance!

Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they grow up. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want to put our dogs in the best living situation possible. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home. If I sound like the perfect pit bull for your and your family and you are interested in giving me a forever home, do not hesitate! Please fill out an application here and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.
