Facts about 4 mo black velvet chinchilla

  • Species: Chinchilla
  • Color: Black
  • Age: Baby
  • Sex: Male
  • Hair: Unknown
We have black velvet male chinchilla who’s looking for his new home. He came to NWI a little bit ago, and is now ready to leave and go to a family of his own.

He was born around 6/30/16, making him right around 4 months old. His color is called black velvet, which means he’s a black color on his sides and back, and he has a nice white belly.

He is a bouncy little boy! He has no problem hopping on you, or over you, and would undoubtedly be a fun chinchilla to do playtime with! While he’s more of an active boy, he does settle down a bit when being held, and he does well with being held and petted. He still would enjoy exploring the world around him (with you along of course), but is a very sweet boy. Doesn’t bite.

This chinchilla would make a great "first chinchilla" for someone who's never had one before.

This chinchilla is currently caged alone. However, if you interested in pairing him up with your, or one of our, chinchillas, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

This chinchilla will come with some food to start you out (Tradition pellets), a goodie bag of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. He will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet and fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

This chinchilla is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). Sorry, but we do not ship.

The adoption fee for this black velvet male chinchilla is $200

About NWI Chinchilla Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

I am Ashley Gajda and I am the "owner" (if it could even be called that) of the rescue. I opened this rescue because I hated to see small pets without homes, and wanted to help. We opened the rescue in 2003 with very few cages, but have since expanded and now take in a variety of small animals and have plenty of spare cages. It is just me running the rescue, so I'm always looking for volunteers to help with whatever needs it at the time.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Visiting our adoptable animals requires an appointment. To make an appointment with us, give us a call 219-789-0026. The rescue is run out of our house, so we are not always home for someone to view the animals. We are home most afternoons/evenings, and people are welcome to come visit then (after having called and set up an appointment).

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoption process requires all of our potential homes to read our care packet and fill out an adoption form. The care packet talks about the care and needs of the specific animal the home is looking to adopt. The adoption form asks questions about the type of home the animal will be going into, what type of cage will be used, what type of food the animal will be fed, and so on - questions to verify that the pet will be cared for well in its new home. There is no application fee with our rescue, the only fees are the adoption fees for the pets.
