My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you are interested in meeting Amaira, please fill out an adoption application at www.evenchance.org/adopt and we will be in touch!

What is your name?
Hi, my name is Amaira. My foster parents picked it out because it means
One who will be forever beautiful in Greek.
How old are you?
I’m somewhere around 3 1/2 years old in human years.

What do you look like?
I am gorgeous! The color of my fur is called blue with a white tux. I have a very healthy coat because of the yummy supplements I take. The vet even said I have a beautiful white smile! My ears on the other hand are not as pretty. Apparently somebody thought at some point in my life that I did not need them, but it doesn't bother me anymore. Foster mom likes to call me her "Baby Seal"

What do you like to eat?
I love all the stuff I get for dinner and breakfast. Its a combo of grain free kibble, Honest Kitchen, and my favorite part the can that has pulled beef in it! My foster mom also puts supplements for my skin in there too. She mixes it up so I don't even mind my pills

What kind of personality do you have?
I am a super sweet girl! I am very wiggly and sometimes just fall over because I don't know what else to do with myself. I am increadibly submisive to humans and want so badly to please them. My foster family is trying to build up my confidence, so we have been taking walks and learning commands. When I walk my foster mom says I have swagger because my body just moves side to side.

Describe your perfect day:
My perfect day would include lots of snuggles! I need at least one walk or 15 min training session a day. It helps me build my confidence, but my foster mom says I would sleep all day if you would let me. I like to play with other dogs, but always under supervision because we all can get a little rough. Exploring is probably my most favorite thing. My foster mom sometimes takes me on a car ride to different places and those are my most favorite days!

What is your favorite toy?
I love to take all my toys out of the box, especially the fluffy ones and spread them around the room until I find the perfect one to take to my bed. Sometimes I mistake slippers for my toys and put them in my bed. They just smell so good and they are so fluffy!

Do you know any tricks?
I know how to sit. I am learning down, but most of the time I fall over and lay on my back and wiggle like crazy! It sometimes makes training time a little hard because I act so goofy.  My foster mom takes me on walks and I stay right beside her. Sometimes she says "watch" while where walking and when look up she gets really happy and that makes me happy. Once in a while I do such a good job she will give me a treat!

What scares you?
If a human raises their hand to quickly I cower and squint like I might get hit. My foster family is trying to help me through it by showing me it's okay. When the hand goes up and down I get affection or a treat so I cower a lot less now. I also get scared if there is shouting or a loud noise, but as I work on my confidence I am getting so much better. My foster mom says I am a super soft girl.

Do you like cats?
My foster family hasn’t seen me around any cats, so they aren't really sure, but I did meet Dr. Johnson’s cat at the vet office. At first I was scared and barked at it behind my foster daddy, but when I stayed there for the day I really wanted to say hi.

Do you have any doggie best friends?
My favorite to play with is my foster sister Annabelle. She is an old lady but is very respectful when she plays so I don't get very intimidated. I love all my foster brothers and sisters but some of them don't want to play and that's okay with me. Then there is the big one.. Monty, he likes to play rough and sometimes can be rude, so I make myself big and puffy and mimic what he does. My foster mom says that he is a bulldozer. Not sure what that means, but I agree.

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?
On the couch surrounded by my foster family. My foster parents put a bed on top of my crate next to the couch. This way I am technically not on the couch, but I am super close!

How is your health?
My health is great now! I had a slight cough when I left the shelter, and my skin was a little splotchy. I also was pretty malnourished probably from the last litter I had. Those puppies really can suck the life out of a girl.  Dr. Johnson said I had at least 2 litters of puppies. I am still a little thin but I am building muscle nicely. My fur filled in within a week and now I am super shiny!!!

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?
I share a home with my foster mom, Kelly, foster dad, Craig, 2 foster brothers pit bulls, and 2 elderbull foster sisters! It is quite a house full but it works really well and there is always someone to play or cuddle with. My favorite is definatley my foster dad, he likes to pick me up and kiss me. His beard tickles when I kiss him back so I just smash my face in it.

Where do you hang out when you are home alone?
When I am the only one in the house, my foster parents put me in my crate. I usually am fed in my crate or offered a yummy chew. I actually love my crate but don't tell, it is where I stash everything including fuzzy slippers. My foster mom says I need to go on the show "hoarders".

Where do you sleep?
I sleep in a crate in the living room with my other foster sister.

What do you love about your foster family?
I love that they have been patient with me and helped show me the ropes about living in a house. They saw potential in me and cared enough to take me in. They are helping prepare me for my forever family, which I’m very grateful for.

What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents?
I was found as a stray in the city. St. Louis Animal Control picked me up and brought me to the shelter to keep me safe. It wasn’t long before my foster mom and dad stopped by my kennel to say hi and next thing I knew I was on a freedom ride with Even Chance!

Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they grow up. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want to put our dogs in the best living situation possible. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home. If I sound like the perfect pit bull for your and your family and you are interested in giving me a forever home, do not hesitate! Please fill out an application here and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.
