December update: As the only male Prince Valiant had the pick of 6 little girl kittens he lived with. He absolutely has fallen for bewitching little Kangaroo. They need to be adopted together. They pine without the other. We took Kanga in for a combo test at the vet and Valiant cried the whole time she was gone. They cuddle with each other constantly. So we will set them up to live their life together
Original Post: When I was in the shelter getting the red and brown striped kittens that would grow into Cami and Ricki and siblings, I saw this one little kitten all alone. She had the hugest ears and big round eyes. (See the shelter photo’s at the bottom.) She was very scared and one of the kittens that had to get out of the shelter that night- she was too young for them to keep. I said, “Hey, Funny Looking, want to come with me too? ”. And so she did. She loved to be held still and warm in your hands. “I am so small” she said. Little tiny kittens need company, humans or cats or kittens or dogs or other animals. They need warm living bodies to nestle against. After quarantine we put her in with the other four kittens. Soon she adapted to being with them, learned to play (!), and as her vivid coloring developed she started looking like an actual part of that litter.
Her ears have shrunk as her head has grown. Really. (Look at the photo below) It is quite surprising how this adjustment came about. She has turned into a lovely kitten and is no longer a figure of fun. How kittens grow and develop is still a constant surprise to me.
Kangaroo has a clear dislike of the camera (she scowls) so I have had trouble getting photos of her. She is certainly beautiful, more so each day as her colors deepen. She plays well with her sisters and is happy with them and with other kittens and cats. Prince Valiant is also one of her special companions. She is still a bit shy with humans. Sometimes she is outgoing other times less so. She is not quite sure if she feels safe all the time. She is good with folks she knows. She had a very frightening beginning being all alone in the shelter and weighing at that time only 1.2 pounds. She is nicely outgrowing her baby kitten stage but she needs a little more experience. And lots of love.
Kangaroo needs a home with Prince Valiant. She needs a quiet and stable home without dogs or young kids. She still needs to grow in safety a bit as she matures. As a typical calico her heritage is to become a bit opinionated and quirky. She will make someone a wonderful, loving companion and look like a moving piece of sculpture.
She eats wet and dry food and is litter-box perfect.

NOTE: We prefer families with children bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone’s best interest!
