My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have a male rat up for adoption. His name is Ratticate, and he is a black hooded male rat. He came to our rescue as a transfer from a dog/cat shelter up in Wisconsin, and now he is up for adoption. He was born around October 2015, making him 1 year and 3 months old, at the time I write this.

Ratticate is a very sweet rat. We don’t actually know why he was surrendered to the WI shelter, as the previous home did not write down a reason, but it can’t be because of his personality… he is just the sweetest, most loving rat ever. He loves his hammock, and if he’s feeling shy, he will retreat to the safety of his hammock… and he can pretty much be found lounging there quite a bit anyway, he just likes it! And he hasn’t even destroyed it yet! He also loves his yogis and we discovered that he likes chicken soup as the occasional snack. We’re spoiling him while he's here, as rats that are a bit older (read: not babies) tend to not get adopted, and we want to make sure he knows he's loved, even if he never finds a home. But hey, maybe the right person / family will come along and will want to make him part of their family! He's doing well here and is just a doll -- do you want to take him home and spoil him for the rest of his days? He’s never bitten anyone.

Ratticate is currently living alone, though he did have a cagemate at one time. We make no guarantees as to whether he will or will not get along with your pet rats.

As with all our rescues, this rat will come with some food to start you out (a baggie of lab blocks), and a printed out version of our rat care packet. We also have additional supplies for sale -- many of the things we sell for chinchillas work great with rats as well (they like the hidey houses, the hammocks, and so on), and we also sell Mazuri Rodent Breeder 6F lab blocks at $1.25/pound.

Regardless of past rat experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our rat care packet and fill out our adoption application/rat questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No rat will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

This rat is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324).

The adoption fee for Ratticate is $10.
