My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pierre was rescued from a local kill shelter where he had been held almost a month because the shelter staff/volunteers were so in love with him. He had initially been brought in for the minor scratching of a young child. This happens not infrequently when their nails are not trimmed and a child picks them up improperly. Pierre went through quarantine and then was held a long time after that! This is especially impressive given that the shelter was stuffed to the brim with cats and kittens. He is so sweet that they just "knew" he would get adopted any day, but the days added up and he was still there. His foster mom has a soft spot for the big loverboy toms and when she heard his sad story, he came home with her right there on the spot. Sadly for Pierre, though, he'd been at the shelter just long enough to become very ill with a virus that was going through the cat room. To make it even worse, he had ringworm. In his foster home he had to be caged for over a month because of the ringworm, but he is all healed up on all fronts now and ready for his forever home. Even at his sickest, Pierre never lost his appetite and continues to eat well with pretty much anything put in front of him. :) Pierre is a big couch potato loverboy. He gets along with kids, cats and dogs. He is such a great and deserving cat! Please consider Pierre for your next forever family member!

NOTE: Pierre is FIV positive, but don't let this scare you! Pierre is young and perfectly healthy, except that she carries this virus. FIV is feline immunodeficiency virus. Cats can live long, healthy lives with FIV. FIV is primarily transmitted to other cats via bites (must be transmitted through blood) and is not transferred via litterboxes or food bowls. The virus only lives outside the cat for 2-3 hours so it is not contagious to other cats in non-aggressive households. Actually, many people own FIV+ cats and do not even know they carry this virus. It is asymptomatic and unless a blood test is performed, there is no way of knowing if a cat has it. FIV is ABSOLUTELY NOT transmittable to humans or dogs. So although Pierre is listed as "special needs," he needs no special care beyond any other cat.
