My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Reilly" is a beautiful approx 2-yo female GSD with a perky, friendly personality that is so typical of solid black GSDs. Reilly is very tuned in to her caretaker and will likely be quite a loyal dog. She is accepting of strangers, and licked my hand when I reached inside her caretaker's car to pet her (generally not a good idea).

Reilly is OK w/ other dogs, but appears to lack socialization w/ dogs other than her male Chihuahua pal "Chip" (see picture left bottom). Ideally, we would like to place Reilly and Chip in a home together, but will also place Reilly alone.

Reilly was initially rather stand-offish of the other GSDs she let at GSRSV's rescue ranch, barking quite a bit at them, but she got much more comfortable w/ them as time wore on. When her caretaker Brandon and I took a walk with her and the other dogs, she did quite well, but remained close to Brandon for security. (Click here for a video of that walk.)

We don't know how Reilly is with cats, so for now we will only consider homes without cats for her.

It is not yet known if Reilly is housetrained, as Brandon keeps her outside because one of his three dogs (a female) has made it clear she does not want Reilly around at all. However, she is likely housetrained as Brandon keeps Reilly and Chip in his garage at night and she has yet to have any accidents in there. Brandon keeps Reilly and Chip in an outdoor chain-link kennel during the day when he's at work because the two dogs got out of his yard shortly after he brought them home. That escape was almost surely due to Reilly and Chip being used to roaming free (read below how Brandon acquired Reilly).

Reilly has clearly received some basic training previously, as she sits promptly on command and is very attentive to hand signals and vocalization.

Brandon found Reilly and Chip roaming the streets in Stockton late January while driving home to Sacramento. He tried to find the owners of the dogs, and a person told him that the two dogs were always escaping from their owners' yard and running loose. Brandon left a note on the owners' door, and when they called him they basically told him they had no way to contain the dogs (their fence was in terrible shape) and it would be OK for him to keep the dogs. Brandon already has three dogs, but didn't want to take them to a shelter. So, he contacted GSRSV for assistance.

GSRSV has evaluated Reilly and is placing her as a "Program Dog." This means that GSRSV is placing Reilly through its adoption program while her caretaker continues to care for her.

Reilly is located in Carmichael. Her adoption fee is $260. She is scheduled to be spayed on Tues, Feb 14. Chip's adoption fee is $100 (including his neuter surgery), but if you adopt Chip w/ Reilly, his adoption fee will only be $50.
