My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Priscilla is a petite and pretty one year old girl who came to us as an unclaimed stray. She is full of joy and loves attention and affection. Upon noticing something off about her gait, her hips were x-rayed while under for her spay. Sadly both hips were found to be subluxating/dysplastic. Our initial understanding was that surgery would be necessary but after consulting the orthopedic surgeon we have found that is not recommended or an option at this time. His assessment of Pricilla is that her dysplasia is "moderate" and should be managed with diet, supplements and exercise and we have seen improvement just in the time she has been here. If surgery is required it would be well into her future and with reassessment at that time. With proper management and supportive care Pricilla should live a relatively normal life. She is a playful happy pup who loves to run and play in the yard. We will be looking for a home with the ability and commitment to provide glucosamine and fish oil supplements along with high quality food and daily walks as well as yard time to build and keep muscle tone. Her weight must be kept in check and pain meds or antii inflammatories may be needed occasionally if she really over does it. Of course the hope is that proper management of her condition will slow or stop it from progressing but when she is older it is possible and probably likely she will need medication on a more regular basis due to arthritic changes. We will be happy to discuss Priscilla in more detail with applicants interested in her.
