My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Courtney
3-4 Year-Old, F, Maine Coon Mix

This kitty could get a job at a day care center. She is so gentle. And, of course, soft and silky. But her temperament is entirely patient and loving. She loves attention and never complains. When we bathed her, she was clearly not having a good time, but we never worried she would put her teeth or claws on us. When she arrived, her fur was dirty and she had something sticky and dark on her nose. What a difference a bath made!

Courtney is clearly a well-loved cat who was left at a shelter. Someone’s heart must have broken in addition to hers when she was left there. She got a cold at the shelter and they looked for a rescue to take her. I love the red cats so this was an easy decision for me. What a darling she is, more than I ever imagined.

She is a Maine Coon mix with, I expect, a bit of Persian in her. Her nose indents in as a classic Persian’s does and her wonderful soft fur is similar to a Persian’s. (Classic Persians (old style) do not have the super flat faces that are now in vogue; instead they have a notch…an indentation in the line of their noses.)

Courtney also has another interesting body feature. She has little “Eyespots” also called False Eyes. If you look at the photo taken when she was wet, you can see very clearly the two “eye” spots on the back of her ears. This is white fur not bare skin. Butterflies have this camouflage. (Don’t eat me; my eyes are huge.) Cats can have Eyespots, particularly the big cats like Serval cats.

So Courtney is a special girl in many ways. Some family will be very lucky to have her loving company. She is cat friendly and would probably be fine with dogs who were gentle with her. She seems to like everything and everyone. She needs a stable loving home.

Courtney eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.

Her foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.
