My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

River is handsome boy who is a laid back type of dog. He can be out and sit at the fence and just watch the neighborhood activities and just enjoy the scenery. He gets along well with all sizes of dogs, he has not been around cats that we are aware of so it is unknown how he is with them. He loves human attention & thinks he should be a lap dog. He will do his best to sit on your lap and wants to sleep in the chair beside his foster mom. Loud noises frighten him so a home with toddlers or young children playing would be overwhelming for him; hunting would also not be suitable for our tender-hearted boy. River is just a big lover and wants to be as close to his person as he can be. Lazy afternoons would be his ideal pastime to share with his new person or family.

River was rescued from a rural outdoor-only shelter in Oklahoma where there is no adoption program. Dogs are held for two weeks and if not reclaimed by their owners, they are killed. There is no electricity, no shelter from the elements except a plastic dog house with hay, no volunteers to come walk them, and little to no chance of making it out alive. Dolly's Legacy is working hard to save them from a terrible fate and give them the chance they deserve at a happy life with loving families.

River is a Chocolate Lab-Pointer mix (our best guess on breeds), weighs 60 lbs and is approximately 2 yrs old. He will be available for adoption on 4/1/17 when he completes heartworm treatment. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventative & dewormed. He will complete heartworm treatment on 4/1/17 and will need to remain on monthly heartworm prevention for the rest of his life, as all dogs should & is recommend by veterinarians. Adoption fee is $275. The FIRST step is to have you complete our online adoption application. All adoption appointments are scheduled AFTER your application has been approved.
