My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue is helping facilitate the adoption of this cat. We take no responsibility for the health and medical records of this cat. It is the responsibility of the owner and adopter to discuss this. Boris is not in a Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue foster home but residing with the Marin Humane Society in Novato, CA.

Boris
10 year old, M, Black Smoke Selkirk Rex (Please note that Adopt A Pet does not have a "smoke" category; I put the closest color my computer showed.)

Meet Boris and his lifelong friend, Natasha – a bonded pair of cats with a unique look. No “bad hair day” jokes, please!

These lovely felines are purebred Selkirk Rex--often called the “teddy bear cat”-- characterized by their curly or wavy hair as well as a plushy, soft, three-layer coat that can look a bit unkempt even when just brushed or combed. As a breed, the Selkirk Rex is known for being mellow, tolerant, affectionate, people-loving cats with serious daily grooming requirements.

Boris is confident and friendly, offering gentle head bumps and soft purrs as he asks for your attention. He is quite playful and is especially fond of wand toys and soft toys to bat around. Boris is a “tree dweller”, often preferring to hang out up high-on a tall cat tree, bookcase, or window shelf. He will want to be included in all family activities and can be quite insistent with gentle paw taps. He is not fond of being held and grooming sessions should be kept short, perhaps followed by a treat. Boris will enjoy spending time relaxing on your lap, purring happily.

Boris and Natasha have lived their entire lives in a quiet home as cherished companions to an adult couple who had no children and no other pets. After their beloved guardian passed away, they were brought to the shelter. Understandably, these changes and the shelter environment have been very stressful for these two older cats. A little time in a low-key foster home has allowed their affectionate personalities to reemerge. Their new family will need to be patient as it may take a bit of time for both cats to adjust to a new living arrangement. A serene setting with adults of any age who are at home much of the time would be best for them.

Although this mature pair would not appreciate the activity and energy level of young children, they might accept the attention of children age 14 and above who are polite and would treat them with gentle respect. They have lived exclusively as indoor cats and must continue to do so.

If you are looking for a pair of sweet, laid-back “teddy bears in cat suits” to share your heart and home and be your loving and loyal companions for years to come, please spend some time getting to know Boris and Natasha. You will find their gentle personalities and short, curly whiskers charmingly irresistible. If you find yourself hesitating about adopting an older kitty, please read this wonderful, thought-provoking blog: http://purebredsplus.org/for-a-limited-time-only/

Please note that Boris is not with Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue. We are courtesy posting him for the Marin Humane Society in Novato, CA.
