My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Duke is a smart, sensitive and huge, three-year-old, 118-pound, male American Bulldog looking for a loving guardian.

This smart boy loves walks, runs, rides in the car, and is perfectly well-behaved in the house. He knows the commands sit, paw and other paw and is very food-motivated. He loves toys and playing ball.

Duke bonds strongly with his people and is very protective of the women in his life. He not only guards his women, but his toys and bones too.

Duke was abused by a man who beat, pinched and hit him. For that reason, he naturally prefers women and can warm up to men in time. Because he was crated by his former “owner” who would hit the crate with Duke inside of it; he does have an aversion to crates. After years of taking this horrible abuse, Duke finally turned on his abuser and bit him. Luckily a caring dog-lover in the neighborhood took him in.

He is currently living with a Rottweiler, Boxer-mix and a cat. He gets along with everyone but it took some training. While he gets along with other dogs outside the home, at home he’d probably be happiest with only women and as the only pet. But, he can adjust to other situations with time, patience and training.

If you are interested in meeting and possibly adopting him, please contact Roz at rosalindmoss88@icloud.com or 773-456-1180. His adoption fee of $200 supports rescued pets. Duke is being fostered in Schaumburg, Illinois. He is healthy, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and micro-chipped.

He is looking for a patient dog-lover who will use consistency and positive reinforcement to train and exercise Duke to help him lose some weight.
