Here's what the humans have to say about me:
FOSTER LOCATION: Nampa, ID
Copper is the cutest thing; helooks like a miniature Irish Wolfhound but best guess is Schnauzer/Heeler with a bit of Shih Tzu thrown in for good measure from his mom. He is about 11 months old and weighs in at about 33 pounds of wonderful, loving lap dog, who will likely grow a bit more as he ages.
He knows “sit” and “down”. He might respond to “leave it”, but then again perhaps not he is after all just a puppy. He will come when called in the yard, but cannot be trusted to respond in the big world as he is still a puppy and is easily distracted. He is crate trained and will go in on “kennel up” command most of the time. He sleeps in his crate and considers it his den – a new home will need to continue with this and supply him a crate.
Copper is house trained to use a bell hanging on the door to tell you he needs to go outside. He also uses a dog door very happily. He rides pretty well in a car, although should have a seat belt to keep him from moving around.
This boy does have some Heeler in him and as such has a pretty high prey drive. He picks on the 5 pound Yorkie in his foster home so his new home will need with no small pets: dogs, cats, guineas, or any other prey type pets. He does great with dogs around 20 pounds and up; but again remember he is a puppy and tends to play rough.
Copper will need an active family; he is fairly high energy and will need daily exercise; a run every day would be best. As an adolescent, Copper will chew your furniture, shoes, or anything else in range when bored (exercise people). Sturdy chew toys to work on (another reason to crate him when you are not home); a Kong filled with peanut butter, interactive toys will all help keep his mind and body busy. (Surprisingly, he loves soft stuffed toys too, and does not destroy them.)
Copper is a strong, young dog, and should go to an adoptive home that can provide lots of structure and exercise. Copper is eager to please, smart as a whip and would LOVE to go to an obedience class.
Copper is neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. His adoption fee is $150.00.
