My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi People!
I’m go-go Gus, a very playful two or three-year-old Bichon boy of about 19 lbs who loves people! And I love my foster family! I love my toys! I love my walks! Love riding in the car! I’m also pretty darn adorable and very very special (more about that later)!

Mom says that I have the cutest face (aw, gee, thanks Mom) and am a major cuddler She says that nobody can resist me. How is that the case you ask? Well, take for example what I do with Mom (and I’m happy to show you, too!) I start by putting my front paws on her legs tilting my head up to look up at her to ask her to come close, then I reach up to give her lots of kisses and she is instantly and immediately under my spell. Then, I let her give me a belly rub, because there just isn’t anything better…except maybe my walks…

And did I mention that I LOVE going on my walks? They don’t call me “go go Gus” for nothing, Just take out my harness and I am ready to go. Ready for a long walk, ready for a car ride, or anyplace you want because I just want to be near you. Mom says I have a very curious and adventurous spirit and am always ready to (ta da!) go. But if you would prefer to rest, that’s OK too. I can go entertain myself with my toys. I love to throw my stuffed toy up in the air and try to catch it. Dad thinks that is very clever.

I’m not all running and playing though, no siree! Dad says I get the gold medal in cuddling. When I sleep in the Big People’s Bed between Mom and Dad, I don’t move at all and sleep contentedly all night long. He says I always wake up happy and have a smile for everyone I see.

Well I did say see, and that brings me to why I am so special. I see with my heart, not with my eyes. I was born with something called Juvenile Cataracts ( it has nothing to do with those creatures called cats, I don’t care for them at all) My BFK aunties say that they came on when I was very young but I have adjusted very well. I do most everything that any other furkid can do and I am a very happy pup, eager to meet and greet everyone I come across.

Life wasn’t always so good though I used to have a family, but they weren’t too interested in a guy like me, I had to live outside in the cold and rain and my beautiful white coat became dirty and matted. I could hear them inside laughing and talking and I did my best to let them see what a great friend I could be, but no one seemed to care. I learned to play alone and wait for my Mom to come out to see me, but all she did was leave my food and go back in. One day, the gardener left the gate open so I wandered out to the big world. And then I got lost and couldn’t find my way home. No one came to look for me and to make a long story short, I ended up in noisy, scary shelter.

Again, no one cared about me. People walked by but never stopped. I was there for 3 months and started to give up hope. That was until my BFK auntie came. She could see that I could be someone’s best friend and that I had a lot of love and playfulness in me. I did my best to entertain her and give her big kisses and the rest is history. That is how I became a furkid and why I am so happy.

I’m working hard on my housebreaking and am learning commands (Right now I’m happy to show you how I sit). I understand “ NO” and walk very well on a leash. I like my bone and chew toy (Mom says I would never chew on anything that was not appropriate) And I like showing people how much I appreciate this wonderful world we live in. I’m just a happy little guy who loves life and is learning that the world can be a pretty terrific place.

I would love to have my own family to share my joy and love. In return, I will do my best to help everyone feel important and loved. (That will be easy for me because whatever family adopts me will be my whole world.)

So if you are looking for a best friend who likes to ride, walk, play and cuddle, if you are kind and can give good belly rubs then look no further: I’m the dog for the job. Please ask Bichon FurKids to introduce us as I’ll be waiting (and learning new things!)

Your friend in waiting,
Gregarious, Genuine and (a little) goofy Gus
