My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Bubba!  Bubba became a Guardians dog over Easter Weekend when his elderly owner came, with tears streaming down his face, asking the rescue for help.  He was the victim of a very large monetary scam and was getting evicted from his house, and Bubba's only option was the shelter.  Of course, we had to help him out.

Bubba is an absolutely beautiful, snowy white Bulldog mix who weighs 80 lbs.  He is 3 years old and has a medium-low energy level.  Bubba is one special big boy!  We believe Bubba has some hearing impairment, which is quite possible given his white coloring.  He does seem to hear certain noises/pitches, and at time tries to figure out where sound is coming from.  He does seem not respond to verbal commands, his name, squeaky toys, hand clapping, etc, so we have started teaching Bubba hand signals, and he is working very hard on learning them!

Bubba has made so much progress since being in his foster home.  He is seriously the SWEETEST, goofiest boy ever and is a giant LOVER.   We continue to try to understand him and learn how to communicate with him.  Patience and understanding are key!  He melts my heart every time he looks at me with that precious face of his.  Bubba LOVES car rides- he could ride in the car all day long, sniffing all those smells coming in through the windows.  He also loves spending time hanging out in the backyard- from shade bathing to playing a little fetch.  He even tries to make friends with bees!  Bubba has been doing wonderful on his daily walks in his freedom harness- he even jogs with us now, but he can be quite strong.  He is super friendly and loves to meet people.  In fact, he thinks everyone we encounter should stop and say hi.  He adores toys and bones of all kinds- he especially loves playing tug with his foster sister, chewing on his favorite antler, and pulling all the toys out of the toy bin.  He has zero issues with dominance, aggression, or possession of any kind.  Bubba amazingly has no signs of separation anxiety and is left loose in the family room/kitchen while left alone, and has never chewed on anything that is not his.  Since this works wonderful, there is no reason to introduce him to a crate and through his schedule off.

We think a home with another dog would be great for Bubba.  It's really hard to say how he would do as an only dog; Bubba is very in tune to the pack life, and reacts and follows his foster siblings when they react, and he also LOVES having a playmate/companion around.  Taking a few training classes with a knowledgeable trainer would help you learn about him.   Bubba is kid friendly, but not recommended for really little kids- he is a big boy and can get wound up at times during play.  Oh, and NO cats!

So, with all this being said, if Bubba is not hearing impaired (because I hate to declare that he is and be wrong), then he is just a somewhat stubborn good ole bulldog who is a bit of an aloof, lumbering, chill guy with some "spunky puppy moments", who will love you dearly forever and ever, as long as lots of peanut butter and belly rubs are involved.

Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet from Guardians of the Green Mile Inc. We are a group of individuals that have come together to save the lives of animals that are in danger of being euthanized. We raise funds to fully vet the animals and to provide them with a stable home until they are adopted. All of the dogs in our Rescue are in Foster homes while they are looking for their forever family. The only time we put a dog in boarding is for a Foster to go on vacation if another Foster is not able to care for them. We appreciate your taking the time to fill out the application to adopt one of our Guardians of the Green Mile pets. The questions that we ask are to only find the right fit for all of our dogs and the families that will be adopting them. Adoption fees are $250 for dogs that are 1 year and older. $300 for puppies under 1 year. Included in the adoption fee: All animals will be fully vetted, micro chipped and spayed or neutered. (Deposit of $50.00 required if they are not old enough to have the surgery) Renter’s will be required to submit a copy of their lease agreement to verify Landlord and also All Fosters and Adopters that have personal animals must be spayed / neutered. Age appropriate and healthy enough for surgery, we will verify that with the reference call to your Veterinarian.

We are 100% volunteer operated and will process your application within a few days to a week depending on volunteer availability. We will be checking with your veterinarian and personal references, please let them know ahead of time. Applicants will be interviewed and require a home visit before being approved to adopt or foster a dog from GOTGM.
